CLAFLIN - Eight years ago when Kylee Kasselman and her parents, Kyle and Melinda, decided to celebrate her 8th birthday with a little fall festival at the family farm in rural Claflin, they never dreamed that by the time she reached 15 the event would have become a much larger annual event. Kylee has graciously and generously donated all of the proceeds from each event to Kans for Kids Fighting Cancer Foundation.
ELLINWOOD - Building on a theme of reading fluency for preschoolers and kindergarteners through books, interactive games and on the computer, the Ellinwood School Community Library held a "Furry Friends" party showcasing the many programs the library has in place to achieve that goal. Last Saturday, the event included were Alpha Bags, AWE computer, Books for Babies, Tumblebooks, and the Dolly Parton Imagination Library.
ELLINWOOD - On Sunday, Sept. 29 starting at 9 a.m. St. Joseph high school youth will be hosting a community wide breakfast/brunch at St. Joseph Parish Center on 2nd St. in Ellinwood.
Engaging both the visual and audio senses, Petr's Frame House, 2009 16th St., will hold an performance arts evening with a book reading and signing, artwork and music from 5-8 p.m. on Sept. 28. There will be book reading and signing by Diana Webster, original artwork by Heath Duntz of St. John, and original music by the Luna Copii Quintet with Jered Becker, formerly of Ellinwood.
Approximately 104 calls for service and 70 Officer initiated calls were received for the month of August. Officers responded to nine medical/fire calls. Three arrests were made and six criminal summonses were served in the month of August.
