Ellinwood Garden Club meets

The Ellinwood Garden Club traveled to Stutzman's Garden Center in Hutchinson on April 13. After shopping, eight members and their guests had lunch and dessert at the Dutch Kitchen. The next meeting will be May 11. Members will meet downtown to plant flower boxes at 9:30 a.m.. Hosts are Bill Starr and Bobbie Richardson.

Fullbright scholarships awarded

ELLINWOOD -This past January, the final Big Al Memorial Basketball Tournament was held. "We met the goal of $10,000 so that the scholarship in Alan's memory will be endowed," said Virginia Fullbright, Alan's mother. "It is the generosity of the Ellinwood community, school system, Ellinwood High School students, instructors, sponsors, family and friends that has made this possible.

Rotary Club to hold athletic banquet

ELLINWOOD - A time-honored tradition in Ellinwood, the Rotary Club Athletic Banquet for high school athletes will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, May 13 at Ellinwood High School. Rotary Burgers will be served, and the cost is $5. It is open to the public.

USD 431 to add pole vaulting event

HOISINGTON - At the school board meeting this week, USD 431 approved pole vaulting as a new sport for track next year. The sport will be funded by a private donation of $18,000.

I am reminding everyone to wear their seat belts when operating or riding as a passenger in a motor vehicle. The most current seat belt law which allows law enforcement officers the ability to stop a vehicle if either of the front seat occupants in a vehicle are seen not wearing a seat belt.

Ellinwood Rotary announces theme for AHF Parade

HMS performs School Daze

HOISINGTON -On April 29 and April 30, the Hoisington Middle School vocal group performed its play "School Daze" at Roosevelt and Lincoln Elementary Schools. The vocal group is made up of 7th and 8th grade students from Hoisington Middle School.

Alan Fullbright Scholarships awarded

ELLINWOOD - The criterion for the Alan Fullbright Scholarship are a reflection of what was significant in Alan Fullbright's life. The 2013 scholarship recipients are Stephanie Troyer who will be majoring in Music Education and attending Barton Community College. She has held several offices in KAY, FBLA, International Club and was the Student Council secretary and vice president of her class.
