In retrospect, those days may not have all been "good", but nonetheless, can all be looked at as part of early life for persons in their 50s and 60s. The price of gas was 30 cents; eggs and a gallon of milk were 54 and 49 cents respectively; stamps, four cents; and the cost of a new home was $18,000. Wouldn't people give anything for that now?
ELLINWOOD - In 1939, when Nazi Germany invaded Poland and started a world wide war with unmatched death, violence and fire power, and the lives of 60 million people were extinguished, Ellinwood is remembering its own at the Ellinwood/Community School Library with an exhibit of those who served, and of those who never returned.
HOISINGTON - The Hoisington City Council approved at its Monday meeting, Ordinance 1457 establishing regulations and fees utility services. The fee for establishing electrical service is $100, and the fee for establishing water service is $50. The person requesting utility service must provide a proof of ownership or a rental lease agreement in addition to a government issued photo identification.

USD 355 has a new MS/HS principal for the upcoming school year. Shawn Henderson is currently the band instructor at Scott Community High School. Shawn and his wife Marie have two children, Mallory,7, and Nate, 5. The family enjoys being actively involved in their community. They also enjoy performing and singing/playing music together. The Henderson family said they are excited about this opportunity and look forward to joining the Eagle family.

HOISINGTON - The USD 431 Comprehensive Planning Committee, which were citizens of Hoisington appointed by school board members, met earlier this April to discuss strengths and weaknesses of USD 431, at a meeting facilitated by Kansas Association of School Board Deputy Director Dr. Doug Moeckel. John Carmon Ellison of Allen, Texas, 57, passed away on May 30, 2013. He was born on Sept. 3, 1955, in Fort Stewart, Ga., the son of John and Dee Ellison. On Nov. 28, 1995, John married Phyllis Taylor in Great Bend. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. John was also very proud of his police work; he started the SWAT program in Great Bend. John loved barbecue and cooking out, but most of all, he loved his family. He had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh.
