Big changes are occurring in the marsh. I have been traveling a bit – went to Louisiana for a alligator and to Wyoming for a cow elk. Hope to draw a bull tag next year. It gets a little more difficult each year – this is my fourth year to draw only the cow tag. Elk is certainly a elegant addition to the table and I retrieved 286 pounds of meat. Bow hunting is a lot of fun.

HOISINGTON - The USD 431 Board of Education passed a resolution supporting the College and Career Ready standards at its regular meeting on Monday.
ELLINWOOD - In response to the flooding issue from August, the City of Ellinwood has requested qualifications for resolving flooding from seven engineering firms, the Ellinwood City Council heard at its regular meeting on Tuesday. City Administrator Bob Peter said that he has received responses from two of them.

HOISINGTON - At its regular meeting on Monday, the USD 431 School Board heard a presentation from Recreation Commission Board President Lee Van Scyoc considering an increase of one additional mill to pay for Parks and Recreation. The mill levy assessment is the amount of property taxes assessed to landowners.
HOISINGTON - Government commodities will be distributed from 5-6 p.m. on Oct. 21 at Living Joy Community Church, 354 W 1st St (NW Corner of 1st & Vine). This will be the last distribution for 2013.
ELLINWOOD - The Ellinwood Recreation Commission has begun looking for a full-time director and will begin advertising for the position. The job begins on January 15, 2014 when the commission begins to collect its mill levy taxes, passed at the election in April. The commission has been meeting monthly to discuss and make plans for the upcoming year.
