Local Boy Scouts collect clothes
ELLINWOOD -The Ellinwood Cub Scouts & Boy Scouts will be hosting a fundraiser through the GoodThrift project to raise money for the Ellinwood troops.
Local RV club travels state
BARTON COUNTY - Members of the local RV Club, Cowboy Sam, load up their rigs every third weekend of the spring and summer months and travel to destinations around the state, enjoying the company of good friends and good food.
HHS in charge of Red Cross blood drive
On April 12, Hoisington High School hosted a Red Cross blood drive. Over 60 students, faculty, staff, and community members went through the process of donating. Out of the 60 plus people that came in to donate, the Red Cross received 54 good units of blood. The goal for the Hoisington High School and Community was 41 units of blood. The Hoisington community has not hit their goal in over a year.
Woodhaven offers restaurant-style dining
ELLINWOOD - Woodhaven Care Home has begun offering restaurant style dining to its residents and visitors.With a restaurant-style menu, residents can order a wide variety of fresh food all at a dining table with a dining cloth.

ELLINWOOD - "Finding the Pearl" by Thuan Tammy Fadler with Carol McAdoo Rehme. This memoir describes how a young immigrant from Vietnam found success in America, and rose to the top of her profession. The book was co-written by Carol McAdoo Rehme, of the Ellinwood Rehme family.
Quivira Public meetings scheduled
A series of public meetings for Quivira National Wildlife Refuge are scheduled for three area communities. Quivira has completed a draft Comprehensive Conservation Plan for public review. The goal of the Plan, or CCP, is to provide guidance and management direction for all Refuge programs for the next 15 years. It includes a vision statement and supporting goals, objectives, and strategies.
USD 431 accepts resignations, hires
HOISINGTON - At a special meeting on Friday, the USD 431 Board of Education accepted the retirement resignation of Becky Andereck effective at the end of the 2012-13 school year.

KDOT to hold public information meeting
ELLINWOOD - The Kansas Department of Transportation will hold a Public Information Open House on the pavement and curb reconstruction project on US 56/K96 through the city of Ellinwood at 4-6 p.m. on April 30.

Approximately 75 calls for service and 86 officer initiated calls were received for the month of March. Officers responded to eight medical/fire calls. Eight arrests were made and five criminal summonses were served in the month of March.
