HOISINGTON - Hoisington Main Street Inc. will once again host a romantic Valentine's Day Dinner for couples beginning at 6 p.m. on Feb. 15 at the Knights of Columbus, 114 N. Main. The evening will be highlighted with a chance for couples to renew their wedding vows.
ELLINWOOD -The Ellinwood Middle School and High School Bands will be holding the annual Chicken Noodle Dinner on Sunday, Feb.9, in the Ellinwood High School Commons Area. Enter through the main entrance at 300 N. Schiller or from the parking lot on the west side of the building. The dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
ELLINWOOD - Ellinwood Grade School second grader Taylor Poteet was unaware that the picture he drew was chosen from among thousands of entries as runner-up for the 15th annual "Kansas Don't Spoil It" calendar contest.
Approximately 106 calls for service and 90 Officer initiated calls were received for the month of December. Officers responded to 17 medical/fire calls. Three arrests were made and three criminal summonses were served in the month of December.

HOISINGTON - Darlene Stoss, long-time Hoisington area resident, was named "Citizen of the Year" at the Hoisington Chamber of Commerce banquet.
HOISINGTON - The city of Hoisington has received complaints about trash polycarts being left on the street long after trash pickup days, and, as a result is considering new rules.
ELLINWOOD - The Ellinwood High School Forensics Team placed 6th at a tournament held at Southeast of Saline on Saturday, Feb. 22.
ELLINWOOD -The Ellinwood School/Community Library is excited to welcome national award winning author Cynthia Kadohata to the Ellinwood library for a series of events during the first week of March. The schedule of events includes presentations to student groups, student book signings, and question and answer sessions on Wednesday, March 5th.

CLAFLIN - The Claflin Fitness Center, which was established by volunteers in 2013, has added classes and is making plans for further improvements to the facility.
Legislative coffee to be held
ELLINWOOD - Ellinwood School District USD 355 will begin implementing its iPad student initiative with a partial rollout for the last quarter of the school year for 5th and 12th graders and a full roll-out from k-12 this fall.
The Clara Barton Hospital Foundation is currently seeking applicants for their 2014 healthcare career scholarships. Each year the Foundation desires to present several individuals with scholarships. Scholarship amount varies with the merits of the application and funds available from the endowments. The four scholarships to be awarded are: Jonathan Witt Scholarship, Sadie Stalcup Scholarship, Verda Lane Nursing Scholarship and Dr. Robert Moore Scholarship. Application deadline for all scholarships is April 1, 2014.
