Third graders make thankfulness turkey

ELLINWOOD - The featherless construction paper turkey at Ellinwood Grade School regained his plumage when third graders brought back to school uniquely designed feathers, each distinct with the personality of the family and child just in time for the holiday.

Johnson placed on administrative leave

HOISINGTON Hoisington High School volleyball coach Tina Johnson was placed on administrative leave on Friday, Nov. 18, according to Superintendent Bill Lowry. He had no other comment.

HHS student accepted in honor band

HOISINGTON - Hoisington High School student Austin Stout, senior, auditioned and got accepted to perform in the Southwest Kansas Music Educators Association district honor band. On Saturday, Dec. 3, he will be traveling to Dodge City high school to perform with all the other students from the southwest district who got accepted into this ensemble.

Hoisington awarded $75,000 in tax credits

HOISINGTON - NetWork Kansas announced today that Hoisington was selected as a 2011 Entrepreneurship (E-) Community and has been awarded $75,000 in tax credits, enabling the Hoisington area E-Community to raise $100,000 to be loaned to local businesses. Hoisington joins a group of twenty-nine other E-Communities.

Lowry elected Area 6 KAY president

HOISINGTON - Hoisington High School and Hoisington Middle School KAY members attended the Regional KAY Conference on Nov. 7 at Goddard. At the conference, HHS student Olivia Lowry was elected to serve as Area 6 KAY president. Candidates for this position gave a speech and answered an impromptu question. Hoisington to see slight sewer rate increase in 2012

USD 431 receives grant

HOISINGTON - Hoisington Middle School was notified that they have received a grant for $4,500 to promote and educate students about composting, and they plan to use waste from the lunchroom for that. Students will be trained in waste management with real life and career applications.
