CLAFLIN - The Central Plains High School KAY organization is asking for help to warm the hearts of families in need this winter. Members are asking residents to donate new or gently used winter apparel. It may be dropped off at the local churches in Bushton, Claflin or Holyrood or to any Central Plains School Office.
CLAFLIN - At 2:33 a.m. Friday morning, a red Oldsmobile Alero, driven by 23-year-old Jessica Thayer of Hays was westbound on K-4 near 789 E. K-4. Thayer swerved to miss an unknown animal in the highway and lost control entering into the south side ditch. The vehicle rolled several times coming to rest facing to the east.

HOISINGTON - The USD 431 Comprehensive Planning Committee, which were citizens of Hoisington appointed by school board members, met earlier this April to discuss strengths and weaknesses of USD 431, at a meeting facilitated by Kansas Association of School Board Deputy Director Dr. Doug Moeckel. They presented their ideas to the school board on Monday night.

John Carmon Ellison of Allen, Texas, 57, passed away on May 30, 2013. He was born on Sept. 3, 1955, in Fort Stewart, Ga., the son of John and Dee Ellison. On Nov. 28, 1995, John married Phyllis Taylor in Great Bend. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. John was also very proud of his police work; he started the SWAT program in Great Bend. John loved barbecue and cooking out, but most of all, he loved his family. He had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh.
