CBH Foundation purchases analyzer

HOISINGTON - Through the years, Clara Barton Hospital Foundation members have been generously committed to helping Clara Barton Hospital, a not-for-profit Critical-Access Hospital, expand healthcare services and update equipment to meet the community's healthcare needs. This year was no exception. Contributions from the 2012-13 membership drive funded a Hematology Analyzer for the laboratory.

Ellinwood native, entrepreneur and community friend chosen as ‘Distinguished Citizen’

ELLINWOOD - Except for a few years, Richard Kimple has lived in Ellinwood nearly all of his life and invested of himself and his family in the community, including a business, as a volunteer, as well as providing generous support to the schools and area foundations. He also provides emotional support to families during the death of a loved one as owner of his business, Kimple Funeral Home. He is also the owner of Kimple Monuments and Kimple Furniture.

CLAFLIN -The governing body of the City of Claflin met in regular session, Monday, February 11, 2013 in the city building. EHS forensics team wins meet

ELLINWOOD - The Ellinwood High School Forensics Team earned a trophy for 1st place in team sweepstakes at the KC Maverick Invitational at Kiowa County High School in Greensburg on Sat., Feb. 16. Nineteen schools competed in the meet, and Ellinwood beat 2nd place Sterling by a margin of forty points.

Clara Barton Foundation scholarships available

HOISINGTON - The Clara Barton Hospital Foundation is currently seeking applicants for its 2013 health care career scholarships. The Foundation desires to present several individuals with scholarships. Scholarship amount varies with the merits of the application and funds available from the endowments. Ellinwood FBLA places at district

ELLINWOOD - Ellinwood High School recently attended the 2013 District Future Business Leaders of America Conference hosted by Canton-Galva High School. The students attended the conference and many placed in the competitive events. The next competitive event will be the State FBLA Conference April 3-5 in Topeka.

School board makes appointments

ELLINWOOD - At its regular monthly meeting, the USD 355 school board made two appointments to the new Ellinwood Recreation Commission Board of Directors. They were Mel Waite for four years, and Rob Fisher for one year. The ERC will soon begin planning a budget, hiring a director, and making plans for 2014.
