Ironically, February seems like a complete contradiction to romanticism, sporting a barren landscape, dead flowers, leafless trees, and a temperature that is usually cold as the dickens. In fact, most animals have even bailed ship in hopes of finding a warmer locale or have buried themselves underground to ride out the rest of winter. Somehow though, Valentine's Day does seem to inspire romance, no matter how you approach it.
USD #112 Central Plains School District has been awarded a grant of $3,509 from the Delta Dental of Kansas Foundation. Each year the Foundation provides grants to Kansas-based oral health programs which emphasize prevention to improve the oral health of Kansas.
Twenty-six Central Plains Middle School 6-8 grade students earned the title of "Survivor" by surviving the past 50 days of school. To qualify for the 50-Day Survivor Safari reward, students had to have perfect attendance from Nov. 14-Feb. 7 for a total of 50 school days. Students who met this criteria were able to enjoy an afternoon of games and snacks on Feb. 8th. An "All You Can Eat" Fish Fry will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Feb. 24 at the Hoisington Knights of Columbus hall. The menu will be pollock fish, cole slaw, scalloped potatoes and drinks. Tickets are $8 for adults, $4 for children ages 4 to 11, 4 and under free. All proceeds support area charities.
Soles4Souls and Central Plains High School FCCLA will be collecting gently worn footwear for a person in need, whether they are victims of a natural disaster or subject to living in extreme poverty. It is estimated that Americans have 1.5 billion pairs of unused shoes lying in their closets. The charity can use each and every one of these pairs to make a tangible difference in someones life.

HOISINGTON - Superior Essex of Hoisington is announced the latest recipient of the STAR Employee Recognition Award. Kent Schremmer, scrap operator, was named the first quarter 2014 STAR Employee and will be treated to a dinner in his honor, a customized gift pack, a plaque, and STAR Employee parking privileges.
Each nine weeks Hoisington Middle School faculty and staff choose students who have shown leadership throughout the school. This can include being respectful to adults and students, improving in grades, being helpful in and out of the classroom and just showing leadership qualities. To promote these qualities, students participated in a Leadership Luncheon on March 24th.
