HHS principal guides state character education committee

HOISINGTON - In December of 2010, Hoisington High School Principal Meg Wilson was approached by Sue Kidd, Kansas Character Education Initiative coordinator, at the National Character Education Conference in San Francisco to co-chair the Kansas state character education development committee in its infancy. The committee was charged with developing K-12 standards for schools to guide the process of integrating social and emotional character development for Kansas. The committee work began in January of 2011 and with diligent efforts throughout the past 14 months has reached a final product approved by the Kansas State Board of Education.

Dr. Webb joins CBH physicians’ team

HOISINGTON - Clara Barton Hospital welcomes a new doctor, Dr. T. "Scott" Webb, DO. Dr. Webb is Board Certified in Family Practice. Beginning May 1, Dr. Webb will be accepting new patients in Hoisington and will soon begin seeing patients with Linda Krug, PA at the Russell Family Medical Care Clinic in Russell.

CBH celebrates National Nurses Week with a ‘white out’ day

Lincoln flower orders to be in Saturday

HOISINGTON - Flowers ordered from Lincoln Elementary students may be picked up this Saturday, May 5 from 9 a.m. - noon at Lincoln School. If you cannot pick up your order, please have someone get it for you. The flowers will not be held after that date.

New bar, Beer:30 opens in Claflin

CLAFLIN - A new bar has opened in Claflin at 217 N. Main. Called Beer:30, it currently serves sandwiches and beer on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings and is owned by Mike Hirst.

USD 431 to implement Link Crew to mentor incoming freshman

HOISINGTON - Entering high school as a freshman is a difficult transition period for students. The upperclassmen are larger, and there have never been so many choices. To make that transition easier, Hoisington High School will be implementing the Link Crew next fall.

Central Plains Middle School is pleased to honor Kendi Maxwell as the April Student of the Month. Kendi is the daughter of Jim and Kim Maxwell and is an 8th grade student at CPMS. Kendi has one sister, Kami, a junior at Central Plains High School.

Hoisington Middle School scores in math relays

Hoisington Middle School 7th and 8th graders participated in the league math relays April 23 at Sacred Heart Middle School in Dodge City. There were four categories related to the Kansas Math standards. The 8th grade group consisting of Kylie Broeder, Ryan Broeder, Sienna Ludwig, Rylie Koster, Zade Sanders, and Jacob Warnken placed second in the overall competition. In the 7th grade event, Dewey Doze took third in the Algebra Portion and Vikki Donetz received a 2nd place finish in the Data Analysis.
