Research by Ellinwood student to be featured at forum
TOPEKA- Washburn University student Lisa Ille, of Ellinwood, will participate in the presentation of a group research poster, "Visual Acuity Comparison in Developmental Stages of the Praying Mantis (Tenodera sinenesis)," at The Washburn Apeiron: A Forum of Student Research, Scholarship and Creativity on Friday, April 22, on the Washburn University campus.

Claflin All-School Reunion and City Celebration to be held
On May 29, a Claflin All-School Reunion and City Celebration, parade, games for kids, car display, school tours, beer garden, food vendors and a street dance will be held.

USD 431 to hold preschool enrollment
HOISINGTON- Roosevelt Elementary in Hoisington will have preschool pre-enrollment for next school year on April 11 from 5-7 p.m. This will be for any child that will be 3- or 4-years-old on or before Aug. 31, 2011. Please bring child's birth certificate, social security number and shot records. Physicals will be required by the start of school. If you have any questions please call the school at 620-653-4470.

Board hears community strategic planning report
HOISINGTON - The USD 431 Comprehensive Planning Committee, which were citizens of Hoisington appointed by school board members, met earlier this April to discuss strengths and weaknesses of USD 431, at a meeting facilitated by Kansas Association of School Board Deputy Director Dr. Doug Moeckel. They presented their ideas to the school board on Monday night.

John Carmon Ellison 1955-2013
John Carmon Ellison of Allen, Texas, 57, passed away on May 30, 2013. He was born on Sept. 3, 1955, in Fort Stewart, Ga., the son of John and Dee Ellison. On Nov. 28, 1995, John married Phyllis Taylor in Great Bend. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. John was also very proud of his police work; he started the SWAT program in Great Bend. John loved barbecue and cooking out, but most of all, he loved his family. He had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh.

HOISINGTON - Hoisington Cemetery employees request that all arrangements and grave decorations on the ground and not at the head of the grave be removed to allow for maintenance of the grounds by Monday, June 10.
Ellinwood June Jaunt was a success
ELLINWOOD - Ellinwood streets bustled with activity at the second annual June Jaunt in Ellinwood. Out-of-county license plates filled the parking lots in the city, and that, said Nancy Baird Ellinwood Chamber of Commerce director, was a sign of success.
