HOISINGTON - Dubbed Hoisington's finest school by "The Catholic Advance" when it was built in 1930, St. John School will be torn down in October, marking the end of an era for Catholic students. The school had already closed to students in 1990 due to low enrollment.

ELLINWOOD - The 74th annual Heckel family reunion will be Aug. 28 at Immanuel United Church of Christ fellowship hall in Ellinwood.
OLYROOD - In the words of author Raymond Lindquist, "Courage is the power to let go of the familiar." Central Plains School District teachers and students will find themselves letting go of the familiar as they start classes in the reorganized school district.
Well, the summer is about to pass us by, and school in Ellinwood is scheduled to start on Aug. 25. So here is a reminder for everyone. Watch for children riding their bicycles to and from school. We all need to be observant of the children walking as they cross at the intersections throughout the town.
HOISINGTON - Hoisington Main Street Inc. held a quarterly training session in Hoisington for the state-wide Main Street Inc. program with over 80 people from across the state in attendance last Thursday. On Friday, about 30 directors also attended the directors-only conference.

The Hoisington City Council will meet at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Items on the agenda include a cause hearing for an unsafe structure at 569 W. Third, Duckwalls project, 2011 pool report, update on water treatment plant, grant applications, consideration of the World Trade Center Memorial contribution request, and a cereal malt beverage request.
HOLYROOD - USD 112 teachers and administrators attended the Jostens Renaissance conference in Anaheim, Calif. to inspire students and staff to build a positive school atmosphere, generate school pride and promote education and attendance during their break this summer.
