St. Joes School celebrates Catholic Schools Week

ELLINWOOD - St. Joseph Catholic School, along with Catholic Schools across the nation, is gearing up to observe Catholic Schools' Week Jan. 29 – Feb. 3. The theme for this year's celebration is "Faith. Academics. Service. Catholic Schools". With a variety of special activities planned throughout the week, students and staff will be busy celebrating the benefits of the Catholic School.

CBH and BCHD conduct

In order to gauge the overall health needs of Barton County residents, Clara Barton Hospital and Barton County Department of Health are working together with Northwest Kansas Health Alliance to conduct a community wide health needs assessment. Results of the survey will provide guidance to address health care needs and fulfill both federal and state mandates.

EGS receives Certificate of Recognition from the Challenge Award Program

ELLINWOOD - Ellinwood Grade School was awarded a Certificate of Recognition in the Challenge Award Program from the Confidence in Kansas Public Education Task Force. This award recognizes the EGS third grade for outstanding achievement and uncommon accomplishments based on Kansas Assessment results from 2011 and other qualifying factors.

Oberle chosen as Student of the Month

BUSHTON - Central Plains Middle School has chosen Kaylyn Oberle as the January Student of the Month. Kaylyn is the daughter of Ray and Sandi Oberle and is in the eighth grade. Kaylyn has four siblings: Emily, 23, Nicole, 21, Becca, 18, and Jacob, 11.

USD112 CPMS students reach Renaissance criteria

BUSHTON - On Jan. 6, all Central Plains Middle School students who met the established Renaissance criteria for the second quarter were rewarded with an afternoon of swimming at Barton County Community College. To be eligible for this reward, students had to achieve higher than a 3.2 grade point average and have no detentions, tardies, or office referrals throughout the second quarter.

USD 112 students participate in Honor Band

Central Plains High School student Tim Demel was selected as the 1st Chair Principal Oboe in the 1234A State Honor Band. Demel will travel to Wichita for the Kansas Music Educators Association state convention to be held at the Century II Convention Center Feb. 23-25 for rehearsals and performance.

Students leaders practice, learn new leadership skills

ELLINWOOD - Sixteen student leaders from Ellinwood, along with 16 students each from Sterling and Lyons, all completed a series of three leadership classes, ending last week in Ellinwood.
