ELLINWOOD - Life-size Halloween with spine tingling visuals, casts its spell when passing by the John and Erica Perron residence at 415 Cliston Drive (frontage off 7th) in Ellinwood. Each year the displays grow with four or five new additions just this year.
BUSHTON - The Central Plains Middle School Renaissance council celebrated a successful first quarter on Thursday, Oct. 27. All students who were passing all classes with a C or higher and had not been referred to the office more than one time throughout the first nine weeks were eligible to attend. Ninety-one percent of all 6-8 grade students achieved this Renaissance goal and got to enjoy an afternoon off from classes with movies and popcorn.
ELLINWOOD -Ellinwood Grade School has just completed another very successful and fun week in observance of Red Ribbon Week. Guidance lessons over the past month have focused on drug and alcohol prevention. Besides learning the importance of being drug free, students had a good time with the theme days and winning prizes with their "Live Drug Free" wristbands last week. ELLINWOOD - After 61 long years, the name of Thomas Edward Cooney has been added to the American Legion War Memorial in Ellinwood.
ELLINWOOD - Ellinwood District Hospital has been granted approximately $200,000 in tax credits which can be purchased for the 2011 and 2012 tax years. The tax credits will give the participant a 70 percent state tax credit, and a 100 percent federal tax deduction.
CLAFLIN - The Central Plains High School KAY organization is asking for help to warm the hearts of families in need this winter. Members are asking residents to donate new or gently used winter apparel. It may be dropped off at the local churches in Bushton, Claflin or Holyrood or to any Central Plains School Office.
CLAFLIN - At 2:33 a.m. Friday morning, a red Oldsmobile Alero, driven by 23-year-old Jessica Thayer of Hays was westbound on K-4 near 789 E. K-4. Thayer swerved to miss an unknown animal in the highway and lost control entering into the south side ditch. The vehicle rolled several times coming to rest facing to the east.

This has been a very exciting week. I have enjoyed my five Canadian friends who come almost every year to hunt turkeys with their traditional archery equipment. They got three turkeys and departed on Thursday. Being up by 4:30 a.m. to get coffee and head out for 10 days in a row gives us time to re-affirm our friendship.
