HAYS - At a news conference called to announce good news about overall enrollment at Fort Hays State University, three individual students were recognized for their team accomplishment as national champion student financial planners.

HOISINGTON - A group of concerned citizens approached the city council with a proposal to upgrade Pride Park. They would add shelters, parking, a new playground and refurbish the restrooms and basketball court, as well as add landscaping.
ELLINWOOD - The Ellinwood Garden Club will host an antique and collectables show and sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 1 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 2 at St. Joseph Parish Center. Appraisals will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. Cost is $2, which is good for both days.
HOISINGTON - "Dear Maggie," reads the tombstone of eight-year-old Maggie Tullis, " you left us, our loss we deeply feel." Over a hundred years ago, the parents of Maggie Tullis laid their young daughter to rest, a victim of the harsh prairie life of the late 1800s and early 1900s.
HOISINGTON - The Hoisington Middle School Cardinals volleyball continued their winning ways on Sept 22, hosting a triangular with Phillipsburg and Dodge City Sacred Heart. The HMS A and B teams won both their matches on the day to raise their records to 6-1 and 7-0 respectively. The C-1 team was victorious over Phillipsburg to raise their record to 3-2 and C-2 lost to Dodge City and fell to 0-3. The C-1 team traveled to Central Plains for a tourney on Saturday and the entire team hosts Ellis next Thursday, Sept 29.
HOISINGTON - Avid outdoorsmen, hunter and photographer, Dr. Dan Witt of Hoisington has announced that he will retire from his job after 38 years as a urologist. He will devote himself full-time to his first three hobbies.

It is ""Eagle Time" in Kansas! It seems that we have had more eagles this year than any in my memory. All of the reservoirs have eagles in residence. I have located a couple of nests with eggs under these beautiful mothers. Both parents share the incubating duty that is 35 days, but the female spends most of the time on the eggs. "Bald ( or balde)" meant "white" in the old language, and this bird was declared the national symbol in 1782. HOISINGTON - The Clara Barton Hospital Foundation, in partnership with Clara Barton Hospital, is conducting a capital campaign to raise funds for an expansion project. The campaign started off with a bang over the last few weeks as the staff completed their "Building Together… Caring for Life" Employee Campaign.
ELLINWOOD - USD 355 Ellinwood School Board approved in a special meeting, a new track, bleachers and fencing at the high school football field. Construction is projected to start the last day of track season and last all summer with a finish date of Sept. 1 in time for football season.
HOISINGTON - The city of Hoisington has received complaints about trash polycarts being left on the street long after trash pickup days, and, as a result is considering new rules.
