HOISINGTON - Card players learn the basics of bridge, or sharpen bridge skills with free "Modern Style Basic Bridge" lessons. This is Great Bend Police Chief Dean Akings speaking for Crime Stoppers. Early morning on Feb. 8, three businesses in the 100 block of Main Street in Hoisington were burglarized. Entry to all three was by breaking the door locks in the alley of the businesses. A laptop computer, cash and a hard drive were stolen Loss and damage was $1,300.
HOISINGTON- This past weekend, the Hoisington Middle School Wrestlers competed in the Larned Mertens wrestling tournament.
Eldon Reif of Hoisington has been selected as a winner in the America's Farmers Grow CommunitiesSM program, which gives farmers the opportunity to win $2,500 for their favorite local nonprofit organizations. The Monsanto Fund sponsors the program, and winning farmers designate a local nonprofit organization to benefit from the donations. Reif has designated Kans for Kids Fighting Cancer Foundation, located in Hoisington, to receive the donation.

CLAFLIN - The patrons of school district USD 112 will go the polls from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on March 1 to choose the three candidates for school board Position 7 at-large to move on to the April 5 ballot.
ELLINWOOD - At its regular monthly meeting, the USD 355 school board made two appointments to the new Ellinwood Recreation Commission Board of Directors. They were Mel Waite for four years, and Rob Fisher for one year. The ERC will soon begin planning a budget, hiring a director, and making plans for 2014.

ELLINWOOD - The Ellinwood Rotary Club announces the 2013 theme for the After Harvest Festival Parade to be held at 10 a.m. July 2. This year's theme is "Home Is Where Our Story Begins." They are hoping registrants for the parade will incorporate this year's theme into their parade float.
