USD 431 and City Council hear data on teen drinnking

HOISINGTON - In a joint meeting of the USD 431 school board and the Hoisington City Council, Christina Hayes, prevention consultant for the Regional Prevention Center of NWKS, presented data to the boards and approximately 60 patrons on the Communities that Care survey data which shows that Barton County teens have higher than state averages in alcohol use and cigarette use.

Blood drive to honor coordinator

HOISINGTON -A commemorative blood drive will be held in honor of Nancy Farmer, long-time coordinator of the Hoisington Community Blood Drive on Monday, from 2:15 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Hoisington Activity Center, 1200 Susank Road. KOC holds centennial celebration

KOC holds centennial celebration On Nov. 12, 1910 the Hoisington Knights of Columbus was chartered, and on Dec. 12, 2010, the council celebrated its centennial with a social hour and dinner. School board makes appointments

ELLINWOOD - At its regular monthly meeting, the USD 355 school board made two appointments to the new Ellinwood Recreation Commission Board of Directors. They were Mel Waite for four years, and Rob Fisher for one year. The ERC will soon begin planning a budget, hiring a director, and making plans for 2014.

HOISINGTON -On April 29 and April 30, the Hoisington Middle School vocal group performed its play "School Daze" at Roosevelt and Lincoln Elementary Schools. The vocal group is made up of 7th and 8th grade students from Hoisington Middle School.
