Talking Tombstones

The Talking Tombstones program previously scheduled in July but postponed due to the extreme heat at that time has been rescheduled for Sept. 23. The event, sponsored by the Wet/Dry Routes Chapter of the Santa Fe Trail Association in conjunction with the Larned Convention and Tourism Committee, will be presented at the Larned Cemetery beginning at 7 p.m.

Quilting Bees meet, great new member

Eighteen members of the Quilting Bees Guild met on Sept. 7. Ann Hicks, president, welcomed new member Susan Gray. The "Puss in the Corner" friendship blocks were won by Diane Schultz and the school fat quarter drawing was won by Opal Macy. Diann Morell demonstrated the new friendship block "Kansas Star" from the Kansas City Star collection with fabric donated by Valeta Mantz, former member of the guild, and which will be due in October.

Rozel tornado videos

A tornado developed six miles southwest of Rozel at 7:18 p.m. and moved one mile west of town before turning to the northwest and dissipating about three miles northwest of Rozel at 7:47 p.m. Five farms were damaged by this tornado, including one farm house that lost most of its roof and some of its exterior walls.
