Explore the National Park Service Sites of Kansas

Fort Larned National Historic Site, established on Aug. 31, 1964, was the first National Park Service site established in Kansas. It's not the only, though. There are four other National Park Service sites in Kansas, offering a variety of natural and cultural experiences. Besides Fort Larned there is Fort Scott National Historic Site, Brown v. Board of Education National Historic Site, Nicodemus National Historic Site, and Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve.

Plains Indian Art Program

In commemoration of American Indian Heritage Month an interactive program for kids will take place at the Jordaan Memorial Library from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21. "Plains Indian Art" will be presented by the staff of Fort Larned National Historic Site in partnership with the library. Your child will learn about how the Indians communicated through signs, symbols, and pictographs. The program includes a buffalo game, stories, and an "art journey" done by painting symbols on genuine bison hide. There will be several take-home items for each participant. Two Larned players earn all-league honors

LARNED - Larned High hitters Alyson Aldrich and Aarika Bright earned honorable mention Central Kansas League volleyball honors. The Indians finished with a 10-26 record, 2-9 in CKL play. Hoisington's Marisa Jonas, Hoisington earned honorable mention honors. The Cardinals finished 10-25 and 5-6 in league play.

Humphrey named Larned logo winner

Dallas Humphrey, Larned High student, designed a new logo that will be used for school activities. "Nobody in the country has this "L," and I think that's pretty cool," said Dustin Wilson, Larned High athletic director. Larned is using the logo for school uniforms and school apparel. Joining Humphrey for a group photo are Dustin Wilson, Larned athletic director; Wendy Sundahl, Larned High art teacher; Dallas Humphrey and A.B. Stokes, Larned High football coach. Kristin Keith serves as the president of the Indian Booster Club.
