LARNED - Jordaan Library's new Pathfinder automation system provides some interesting statistics. Jordaan Memorial Library owns 26,881 adult books and 12,729 juvenile books for a total of 39,610 books as of Dec. 31, 2010.

LARNED - A presentation by a UMB banking official presented the apparent lowest cost and lowest interest rate for a proposed $18 million bond for the Pawnee Valley Community Hospital.

LARNED - A fast-paced first week has featured a crash course on the 2012 city budget and multiple meetings with various department heads.
The public is invited to join the city employees for a retirement celebration and reception for Larned city manager Don Gaeddert from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday at the city offices, 417 Broadway. Larned city manager Don Gaeddert and ncoming city manager Lane Massey have worked closely this week on budget preparation. Gaeddert announced his retirement this spring after serving as city manager for 18 years. Gaeddert and his wife, Marie will travel to China for a two-year period. They will teach English as a second language to the Chinese.
LARNED - Piper Jaffray's banking spokesmen said current interest rates have created a favorable financial climate for a proposed $18.9 million Pawnee Valley Community Hospital.
LARNED - The Santa Fe Trail Center will celebrate Independence Day on Monday, July 4 with a special preview of the interior renovation of the Frizell Railroad Depot on the Trail Center's grounds. The Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad Depot was relocated to the Santa Fe Trail Center from Frizell.

LARNED - Larned USD 495 presented University of Kansas Certificates of Service to those Kansas teachers who have taught 25 years, at a recent school board meeting. The following are approved minutes.
FORT LARNED - During the weekend of July 2 through 4, the Fort Larned National Historic Site will come to life with living history activities for a celebration of our Independence Day.

LARNED - The Larned USD 495 heard reports from building supervisors in a recent meeting of the board of education. The following are approved minutes.
Trunk-or-Treat was held at Northside Elementary school Wednesday afternoon. The Larned Indian football team and Larned High cheerleaders handed out candy to the students at the end of school. Cheerleaders and the booster club will hand out candy to the students who are dressed for Halloween tonight at halftime. The students celebrated Halloween Wednesday because USD 495 had parent-teacher conferences all day Thursday, and no school on Friday.
LARNED – A Genealogy Workshop, open to the public and co-sponsored by the Fort Larned Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), the Kansas Society DAR and the Santa Fe Trail Center is scheduled Nov. 15 at the Santa Fe Trail Center, 1349 K-156 Highway, Larned from 9:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
