Larned High's elite choir, Beginnings serenaded those community members who attended Thursday's Larned Chamber of Commerce Coffee Hour which was hosted by Kale and Marsha Erway of State Farm Insurance. The group sang traditional Christmas carols. The coffee hour was held at Glory Be in Larned. Alexandria Rome is the choir instructor at LHS.
Farmers and all who are interested in farm issues are invited to the Pawnee County Farmers Union annual meeting scheduled for 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 2, in the Pawnee County Courthouse lounge. Tom Giessel, President of the Pawnee County chapter of Kansas Farmers Union, says, "The agenda includes topics that not only are of particular interest to farmers but to all living in rural Kansas."
Fort Larned National Historic Site, established on Aug. 31, 1964, was the first National Park Service site established in Kansas. It's not the only, though. There are four other National Park Service sites in Kansas, offering a variety of natural and cultural experiences. Besides Fort Larned there is Fort Scott National Historic Site, Brown v. Board of Education National Historic Site, Nicodemus National Historic Site, and Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve.
In commemoration of American Indian Heritage Month an interactive program for kids will take place at the Jordaan Memorial Library from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21. "Plains Indian Art" will be presented by the staff of Fort Larned National Historic Site in partnership with the library. Your child will learn about how the Indians communicated through signs, symbols, and pictographs. The program includes a buffalo game, stories, and an "art journey" done by painting symbols on genuine bison hide. There will be several take-home items for each participant. LARNED - It's not Grey's Anatomy, but comical characters, a blossoming romance, and hospital antics can all be found in the parody, "Bedside Manor," which will be presented by the Larned High School drama department at 7 p.m. Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Larned Community Center.
