The staff of the Santa Fe Trail Center invites the public to a program on historic buildings on Sunday, Nov. 21, at 2 p.m. in the museum. Dr. Merlene Baird will present a visual tour of historic homes in Kansas with an emphasis on houses close to the Larned area. Information will be given about keeping the buildings historic and well-preserved versus remodeled.
A fire of unknown origin did extensive damage Saturday night to a machine storage shed at the Lee F. Fischer farm southwest of Larned. Bill Clapham, Larned fire chief, said the machine shed was full, he believed, with a camper, a pickup and other items inside. He said he had "no idea" of the total amount of damage done. Longtime board member Larry Carr was honored at the Fort Larned Historical Society's annual meeting last Monday at the Santa Fe Trail Center. Board President Tom Seltmann thanked Carr for his many years of service as he steps down from the Santa Fe Trail Center Museum's governing board. Carr's service on the board of directors spanned 24 years, from 1986 to 2010.

One of them will involve George Weber of Great Bend as Santa Claus, in his wagon drawn by his 14-year-old mule, Babe. Babe is a jenny, or female. The City of Larned is concerned about possible leaks in the city's sanitary sewer system. Leaks in the system can allow large amounts of rain water to enter the city's wastewater system, City Manager Don Gaeddert said Saturday.
