PVCH, FSB of Larned to host a health fair Nov. 5

Pawnee Valley Community Hospital, in conjunction with First State Bank of Larned, is hosting a Communitywide Health Fair on Friday morning, Nov. 5, from 6:30 to 11 a.m., in the First State Bank lobby and meeting room, 116 West 6th.

Larned 'Band of Indians' receives Superior rating

On Monday, the Larned High School "Band of Indians" traveled to Fort Hays State University to participate in the High Plains Marching Festival. The band has been working since August preparing their show, "The Best of Queen." They performed "Another One Bites the Dust," "Bicycle Race" and "Bohemian Rhapsody." Under the leadership of Drum Major Maris Delgadillo, the band received a Superior rating for their performance. They were evaluated by six judges for their performance in five categories: Music performance, marching and maneuvering, general effect, percussion and color guard.

40 enjoy friendly competition in ‘Run for Charity’

The First "Run For Charity," sponsored by Progressive Therapy & Sports Medicine, was held Oct. 9 to benefit the Pawnee County Health Department. Organizers plan to make the event an annual one. The Pawnee County Health Department conducted a Flu Vaccination Clinic as well, inside at Progressive Therapy.

Burgers, history, artifacts — Wet/Dry Chapter meets at fort

Fifty-one members and guests attended Sunday's fall quarterly meeting of the Wet/Dry Routes Chapter of the Santa Fe Trail Association. It was held at Fort Larned National Historic Site. Dr. David Clapsaddle, chapter president, presented the program based on a booklet he authored, "A Long Way to Santa Fe."

LHC administrator praises community,

The Larned community has been "wonderful, supportive, active," in its relationship with Larned Healthcare Center, Alisha Heyen told attendees at last Thursday's Chamber Coffee Hour, hosted by LHC. She said results of an August survey of the facility were good. The healthcare center now has open dining for breakfast, from 6:30 to 9 a.m. This means residents do not have to be ready to dine at a certain time, but can "come and get it" any time in that 2 1/2-hour period.

Last Chance Golf Tourney is 'Great success' once again

The 20th Annual Last Chance Golf Tournament was held at the Larned Country Club on Oct. 17. The team of Jim Haynes, Keith Haynes, Brian Haynes and Glenn Salm won the championship flight. Twenty teams of four players each took part in the tourney.

Council has short agenda for special meeting Monday

Larned's City Council will meet in a special session at 6:30 p.m. Monday at City Hall, 417 Broadway. "Old business" includes possible action on a recommendation by the planning commission about public land requirements for subdivisions.

Wet/Dry Chapter to meet Sunday at Fort Larned

The fall meeting of the Wet/Dry Routes Chapter of the Santa Fe Trail Association will be at 1:15 p.m. Sunday at Fort Larned National Historic Site. David Clapsaddle, chapter president, will present the program about the "Traveling Trunks." The trunk that accompanies and illustrates Clapsaddle's book for youngsters, "A Long Way to Santa Fe," has been presented in a program at elementary schools in St. John, La Crosse, Larned, Hoisington, Rozel, Jetmore and Pratt, with many more to come. A hamburger-and-trimmings meal will be served Sunday.

Dennis Wilson Auto Center hosts Chamber Coffee Hour

Dennis Wilson has been in the business of selling cars for about 40 years. While hosting last Thursday's Chamber Coffee Hour, he told the crowd he had "enjoyed most of it. ... I can get just about any kind of car you want. ... I go to sale at least once a week."
