Thursday afternoon, the Great Bend High School boys' swimming team started the new year with a dual meet victory (90 – 80) against Campus High School at the BCC Natatorium.
ASHLAND - Ashland rolled past the Pawnee Heights boys 53-29 Friday night in boys basketball.
HILLSBORO - Isiah Perez scored 15 points to spark Larned past Hillsboro 43-39 in a Central Kansas league basketball game. Larned's Derek Delgao iced the victory with two free throws. Larned won the fourth quarter 12-6.

The Hoisington Cardinal Wrestling team participated in their own Cardinal Corner Classic Wrestling Tournament this past Friday held in the Hoisington Activity Center. The team did not disappoint their fans as they placed nine wrestlers in the top three of the nine team powerhouse event. Ranked teams at the event included 6A number 7, Dodge City; 1-3A number 8, Marysville; and 1-3A number 4 Ranked Hoisington. Athletes from two eras and the first ever student trainer were inducted in the Barton Community College Sports Hall of Fame over the weekend. Basketball legend Gene Butler, baseball great Jeff Christy and Ryan 'Pete' Manely were inducted during a ceremony Saturday afternoon at the Kirkman Activities Center on the Barton campus.
This last weekend the Great Bend Panther's JV squad competed at the Stafford JV wrestling tournament. The Panthers placed 8 of their 9 wrestlers with three 1st place finishers.
The Hoisington High School varsity wrestling team participated in the Bob Kuhn Sr. Prairie Classic Wrestling Tournament this past weekend at Hays. The team sent five wrestlers to the finals where senior Brandon Ball at 138 lbs. won the Championship match to help propel him to win the Tournaments Most Outstanding Wrestler Award. The Hoisington High School Wrestling team ran its dual record to 11-0 this past Thursday evening, and picked up the Championship Plaque from the Stafford Duals Tournament. The team was outstanding all night as they defeated Bluestem 70-7, Chaparral 65-6, Lincoln 76-6, Nickerson 75-3, and Stafford 63-16. Those in attendance were able to see some outstanding matches on the evening as there were several State Place winners wrestling each other.

Lyles Lashley has received an unbelievable amount of coaching honors in his nearly 20-year career. The most prestigious of them came when he was chosen to be a member of the most recent class to the National Junior College Athletic Association Track and Field Hall of Fame released this past week. He was one of eight people to earn the honor and the only coach in the group.
