Hoisington Varsity Wrestling dual

The Hoisington Cardinals opened up the dual part of their schedule with a 72 to 6 win over the Ellsworth Bearcats at the Hoisington Activity Center. The Bearcats forfeited eight of the 14 weights to the Cardinals, but the matches that they did wrestle against the Cardinals were wrestled with some very solid kids. The Great Bend High School boys' swimming team swam to a first place finish in Hutchinson on Tuesday, Dec. 9, at the Conklin Aquatic Center in Hutchinson. Tony Crough's first year as Great Bend High School Panther football head coach was a success even though the scoreboard may have told a different story. Crough said his team met or exceeded all of his goals for them. "We improved every day, which was our goal all year long," Crough said. Hoisington High School wins Stafford Duals Tournament

The Hoisington High School Wrestling team ran its dual record to 11-0 this past Thursday evening, and picked up the Championship Plaque from the Stafford Duals Tournament. The team was outstanding all night as they defeated Bluestem 70-7, Chaparral 65-6, Lincoln 76-6, Nickerson 75-3, and Stafford 63-16. Those in attendance were able to see some outstanding matches on the evening as there were several State Place winners wrestling each other.

Lashley inducted into NJCAA Track and Field Hall of Fame

Lyles Lashley has received an unbelievable amount of coaching honors in his nearly 20-year career. The most prestigious of them came when he was chosen to be a member of the most recent class to the National Junior College Athletic Association Track and Field Hall of Fame released this past week. He was one of eight people to earn the honor and the only coach in the group.

Sharp Shooters win tourney

The sixth grade Great Bend Sharp Shooters won the Dodge City Shoot-Out MAYB Basketball Tournament on Jan. 10. They went undefeated in the tournament beating Hays Arsenal, Liberal and Hays Tribe. Both the Great Bend boys and girls bowling teams started off their 2015 WAC seasons with home wins against the visiting Dodge City Red Demons. The Panther boys dominated the entire match as they earned all 11 points possible in the contest. The Panthers were led by senior Jeff Meitler who had an exceptional day.
