On being humbled

Don't do it. Don't ever enter a bracket pool for college basketball that includes women. I won't. It is an invitation for disaster, for being humbled. Lord knows, I don't need to be humbled any more!

Remember the Alamo

In 1835, it was James Bowie, William Travis and Davy Crockett who had to play defense in San Antonio as they defended the Alamo. In 2018, it's Devonte Graham, Svi Mykhailiuk, Malik Newman and the rest of the Jayhawks who have to play defense in the ancient city that played a key part in the battle of independence for Texas with Mexico.

Hairdos, tattoos and squeak throughs

The great things about March Madness is that there is something for everybody. If you are a real basketball nut then the games themselves are all you need but, if you are a casual fan, then it is the peripheral stuff that you dote on. Like hairdos and tattoos. We nuts pay more attention to the squeak throughs.

Why not talk more basketball, it still March, after all

Basketball is the talk of the town right now with the run by the Barton men's basketball team. It sure has been a fun ride the Cougars and Coach Craig Fletchall have taken us on so far.

Taking pot shots

I'm not the first to say it but let me be the LOUDEST. TBS did a terrible job with the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament Selection Show. The production was amateurish. The announcers stumbled through it. Their lips and the sound didn't match. The announcing teams in alphabetical order was anticlimactic. Need I go on? The NCAA should scrap these folks for next year and return to a tried and true formula!

Double your pleasure

Do you remember the commercial from days gone by about DOUBLEMENT CHEWING GUM? They sang it something like this, "Double your pleasure, double your fun, chew Doublemint, Doublemint, Doublemint gum." Well, there are a lot of communities around Kansas that are "doubling their fun" this week at the State High School Basketball Championships. Many schools have both their boys and girls competing for that championship trophy.

The calendar says March so bring on the Madness

It's a basketball junkies' best month of the year. March is here. Tournaments here and tournaments there. Tournaments everywhere. From Central Plains going for two state titles to Barton's run in the Region VI tournament. From St. John boys' and girls' headed to Hays to the Big 12 tournament and eventually the Big Dance.

Midnight Musings

I picked MIDNIGHT MUSINGS for the title of this column because there are a bunch of college basketball coaches who are up after midnight worrying, trying to figure out how to escape the dragnet of the FBI and their probe into college basketball corruption. It has resulted in at least three criminal investigations and could have a devastating impact across the sport in the coming months and years.

Get Dean Wade the ball and keeping the squirrels happy

I have some advice for Kansas State basketball Bruce Weber. Get Dean Wade the ball. Make sure Dean Wade gets his shots. Tell the other players on the team Dean Wade is the best player on the floor. Did I mention he should tell the other players on the team that Dean Wade is the best player on the floor.

Make room for Dean Wade

He wasn't on anybody's pre-season All Big 12 list but they need to make room for Dean Wade because he has become one of the best big men in the conference.
