DERBY – Ben Sems is the Great Bend Bat Cats' official savior. The Bat Cats (23-19) are officially headed to the NBC Baseball Championship as the fourth team from the Jayhawk League.

Bat Cats will celebrate Monday night

After the final three home games were canceled, the Great Bend Bat Cats have scheduled a get-together for fans at 6:30 p.m. Monday night at Al Burns Field. The Great Bend Bat Cats (21-18) will travel to Derby Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for a season-ending series.

Braves qualify for Class A State

BUHLER – The Great Bend Braves worked overtime against McPherson, but rallied for a 12-3 second-game championship victory over McPherson that clinched a spot in the Class A State Tournament.

Rain ruins Bat Cats’ night

EL DORADO – Mother Nature conspired to ruin the Bat Cats' night when the El Dorado Broncos escaped with a rain-shortened 2-1 Jayhawk League victory. The Bat Cats (18-18) are scheduled to return home Friday against Oklahoma City.

Another week in July and some more celebrations on tap. This time it moves to the east a tad bit and the Ellinwood After Harvest Festival. Ellinwood has to be one of the smallest towns still enjoying a carnival with its festival. I know there are smaller but it's pretty cool to see the pride Ellinwood takes in its festival.
