Austin, Texas, attracts a lot of unusual characters. Last Saturday it attracted one of the most unusual. ESPN sent Bill Walton-a California flower child-to Austin to be the color analyst for the Texas-Kansas basketball game. In a word, he was AWFUL!

The Great Bend Middle School 8th grade Boys Basketball teams coached by Kyle Kriegh and assisted by Matt Rorabaugh made easy work of the Holcomb Longhorns. The A team scored a 42-16 victory with 22 points, seven rebounds and three assists by Drew Nicholson.

Talk about identity theft! How would you like to be voted the Number 1 men's college basketball team? As Rodney Dangerfield joked, "Who'd wanna be me?" Get voted #1 and get beat. That's been the pattern. Tuesday West Virginia destroyed newly anointed Baylor 89-68. The same horror show has happened to Kentucky, Duke, North Carolina and Villanova, among others, this year. Next up? The Kansas Jayhawks. Fortunately that old nemesis, Oklahoma State has to visit Lawrence Saturday so KU should be able to hold onto that ranking for a little while.
