GBHS boys swim team state qualifiers

The GBHS boys swim team have qualified 3 relay teams and two swimmers in individual events for the State Tournament on Feb. 20 and 21. Cole Pierce qualified in the 500m Freestyle and Joshua Schridde qualified in the 50m Free, 100m Free, 100m Butterfly and the 200m Individual Medley. Four other individuals have state consideration times: Dawson Clark 100m Butterfly; Sean Williams 100m Breaststroke; Connor Furrey 100m Backstroke and 500m Free; and Phane Pedigo 200m IM and 100m Backstroke. These individuals along with Ryan Romine will most likely participate in the qualified relays.

Great Bend Bowling results from Dodge City

The Panther Bowling Teams both came away victorious from Dodge City on Thursday evening. The boy's team earned the win by taking seven of the 11 games. Senior Captain Jeff Mietler earned 2nd place overall honors by rolling a 611 series. The Lady Panthers dominated the night by winning nine of the 11 games. The Lady Panthers were led in scoring by sophomore Allie Brodrick's 582 series which earned her a first place finish. Kingman beats Hoisington 54-42 in Kingman Friday

KINGMAN – Tyler Garrison and Brandon Bradshaw combined for 28 first-half points and Kingman's boys beat Hoisington 54-42 in a Central Kansas League basketball game.

Competitive/Traveling 7U and 8U Summer Baseball

There will be an open informational meeting about 7U and 8U summer baseball from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, at the Big Bend Batters Box, 2207 Washington in Great Bend. This will be informal and parents wanting information should come and go anytime during that hour. If a player was born on or after the date listed below, they would be eligible to play in the following age group or older: 7 and under - May 1, 2007; 8 and under - May 1, 2006.

KSHSAA announces change in Class 1A Division II State Basketball Tournament

As postseason basketball approaches, the KSHSAA and Fort Hays State University have mutually agreed to relocate this year's Class 1A Division II state basketball tournament from FHSU to the United Wireless Arena in Dodge City. The state tournament dates remain as scheduled March 11 – 14.

Hoisington Cardinals Wrestling Classic results

The Hoisington Cardinal Wrestling team continued to dominate in the after Christmas part of their season. The team won the Hoisington Cardinal Classic Wrestling Tournament this past Friday to remain undefeated in tournaments and duals after the break. Fresh off the heels of their big win at the Bob Kuhn Classic just six days before, the Cardinals kept their foot on the pedal by sending eight wrestlers to the finals, and placing 12 in the top four.

Larned JV Wrestling Tournament results for Hoisington

Not only did the Hoisington Varsity Wrestling Team have a great weekend, but so did the Junior Varsity squad. The team took 10 wrestlers to the Larned J.V. tournament this past Saturday and placed eight in the top three. At 170 and 285 lbs., the Cardinals had both finalists.

Baker University head tennis coach Joe Ahmadian has announced the signing of Morgan Francis to play tennis for the Baker Wildcats in Baldwin City. Morgan is a senior at Great Bend High School and the daughter of John and Nancy Francis.

Chiefs take care of business during midweek competition

After a 1-1 split against Dodge City Tuesday the Great Bend Chiefs doubled up on their counterparts from Pratt Wednesday. Great Bend routed their guests in the first half of Wednesday's doubleheader by a 9-1 decision. Jacob Milton started his third contest on the mound for the Chiefs and saddled a no-hitter in the process. Walks and a passed ball contributed to Pratt's only score in game one.

Chiefs split with Dodge City Tuesday

Following a 10-2 series-opening win over Dodge City Tuesday the Great Bend Chiefs gave up some big hits as the Rangers regrouped for an 11-5 victory in game two. Great Bend moves their record to 13-12 and will face Pratt this evening in doubleheader play at the Great Bend Sports Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Four local gymnasts compete at Vegas nationals

LAS VEGAS, Nev.- Alexis Folkerts, Jadynce Schroeder, Jordyn Stukey and Cadence Brown competed at this year' s National meet in Las Vegas June 10-13. Schroeder led the quad placing third overall after competing in the vault, bars, beam and floor. Stukey and Folkerts placed fifth and sixth while Brown came in ninth. (Not pictured is Cadence Brown)

Chiefs fall in semifinals to Buhler

McPHERSON- The Great Bend Chiefs dropped their semifinal game to Buhler in a 7-0 shutout Sunday at the Hooper Showcase. The Chiefs posted a 3-0 record earlier in the tournament with wins over the Kansas Cannons on Friday and El Dorado and Ark City Saturday. At 12-11 on the season Great Bend will host Dodge City Tuesday in doubleheader action beginning at 6 p.m. at GBSC.

Blazers head to Nationals following MAYB tour win

The Barton Blazers took first place in the Great Bend MAYB tournament this past weekend. The Blazers defeated the CK Select in the championship game 49-38. The Blazers will play at Nationals the weekend of July 30th in Wichita. Players include Brock Skelton, Chance Sanger, Nick Wondra, J.J. Heredia, Evan Campbell, Dalton Miller, Connor Griffith, Sam Ryan, and Ray Kuhlman.

Chiefs rebound with sweep at Hooper Showcase

McPHERSON- Following a doubleheader loss earlier in the week the Great Bend Chiefs regrouped Friday and came away with an 8-5 victory over the Kansas Cannons at this weekend's Hooper Showcase. Logan Perry saddled the win for Great Bend while Miguel Sanchez collected the save. In Saturday competition, the Chiefs downed El Dorado 4-2 behind Anson Hall's complete game victory. Great Bend then beat Ark City in a 12-2 decision to go 3-0 in pool play. The Chiefs sit at 12-10 on the season and will face either Buehler or Junction City in the semifinals of the Hooper ...

Panthers 11U win league title

The Great Bend Panther 11 under baseball team finished up league play on June 25 in Larned. The Panthers earned a league championship with a 14-2 league record. They also qualified for the NBC State tournament to be held in Great Bend on July 10 and 11.

Great Bend United FC U14 team traveled to Kearney, NE this past weekend to participate in the Kearney Invitational. They placed second in the tournament losing against the Cyclones 4-2. Final standings were 2-1-1.

BUHLER- The Great Bend Chiefs dropped both ends of a doubleheader Tuesday night to host Buhler. Great Bend fell in the first contest 11-1 and dropped a 9-5 decision in game two. Former Wildcats Sexton and Waters to hold football camp in Hoisington

Curry Sexton and Jake Waters are ready to give back to the state that gave them so much during their collegiate careers. This week, Sexton and Waters, one of K-State's most impactful and productive QB/WR combos, revealed the dates of the summer football camps they will be doing as part of Kansas Gridiron Greats, which targets players from 1st to 12th grade and launched its website (www.KansasGridironGreats.com). Sexton and Waters will be coming to Hoisington for a camp on June 27th. The camp is a fundamentals camp welcome to football players of all positions.
