Lashley inducted into NJCAA Track and Field Hall of Fame

Lyles Lashley has received an unbelievable amount of coaching honors in his nearly 20-year career. The most prestigious of them came when he was chosen to be a member of the most recent class to the National Junior College Athletic Association Track and Field Hall of Fame released this past week. He was one of eight people to earn the honor and the only coach in the group.

Sharp Shooters win tourney

The sixth grade Great Bend Sharp Shooters won the Dodge City Shoot-Out MAYB Basketball Tournament on Jan. 10. They went undefeated in the tournament beating Hays Arsenal, Liberal and Hays Tribe. Players from left to right: Cal Dunekack, Cole Streck, Jack Stelter, Matt Huslig, Drew Nicholson, Sam Hall, Kyler Feist and Devin Guesnier. Coaches are Mike Dunekack and Ryan Streck.

Great Bend High School bowling results

Both the Great Bend boys and girls bowling teams started off their 2015 WAC seasons with home wins against the visiting Dodge City Red Demons. The Panther boys dominated the entire match as they earned all 11 points possible in the contest. The Panthers were led by senior Jeff Meitler who had an exceptional day. The senior captain for the Panthers rolled games of 200 - 278 – 265 in route to a first place finish with a 743 series. Senior Matt Black captured 2nd place honors by rolling a 610 series. Charlie's Inside Corner: FIFA scandal

For something to be a scandal doesn't it have to be shocking? Doesn't it have to be surprising? That the leaders of FIFA, the governing body of worldwide soccer have been indicted for racketeering and bribery and money laundering certainly doesn't qualify then. Blazers take Wichita championship

The Barton Blazers took first place in the Wichita Tournament. They defeated the Wichita Biggins in the championship game 49-40. Players include Brock Skelton, J.J. Heredia, Chance Sanger, Nick Wondra, Evan Campbell, Sam Ryan, Mason Perez, and Connor Griffith. These Blazers play again next weekend in Wichita.

Charlie's Inside Corner: Change for 6A, 5A football

The Kansas State High School Activities Association has approved a change for 6A and 5A football teams in 2016. Just that there should be ANY change should be deemed noteworthy. The KSHSAA and change are not usual bedfellows. Bishop Carroll football coach Alan Schuckman said, "Anytime there's change in Kansas high school football, and it's only been once in my 20 years, it's pretty shocking."

NHRA Lucas Oil winners crowned at SRCA Dragstrip

Champions were crowned Sunday for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at Great Bend's SRCA Dragstrip and the NHRA West Central Division that included Comp Eliminator, Super Stock and the rest of the classes that encompass the nationwide series.
