GBHS football end of season awards

Tony Crough's first year as Great Bend High School Panther football head coach was a success even though the scoreboard may have told a different story. Crough said his team met or exceeded all of his goals for them. "We improved every day, which was our goal all year long," Crough said. "We had a chance to make the playoffs all the way up to the last quarter of our season," he said. "Barring injury, we may have made it and had a few more wins along the way. GBMS Wrestlers travel to Salina

Great Bend Middle School Wrestlers traveled to Salina for a duel tournament on Saturday. "I'm very proud of our team. These guys sacrifice a lot just to participate in wrestling. The fact is this group gave up a Saturday to work their tails off and achieve something pretty special." commented Panthers Coach Norbert Muth. Ten teams attended the tournament. The teams were split into two pools and the winner of each pool would wrestle for the championship. Great Bend Middle School wrestlers traveled to Salina on Saturday to test their skills against Salina Lakewood, Clay Center, and McPherson. The panther wrestlers won their first match up with Salina Lakewood 63-39.

Bandits win second straight tourney

The Barton Bandits won their second straight NBC 13U Baseball Tournament this past weekend at the Green Sports Complex Pre-Season Showcase. The Bandits went 5-0 on the weekend outscoring their opponents 52 to 15. With this tournament win, the Bandits are now 11-4 on the season. The Bandits move on to USSSA action next weekend at the Wildcat Classic in Manhattan, Kansas.

Tabor hammers out 12-runs to claim KCAC baseball title

Jean Acevedo worked seven innings from the hill and retired 11 opposing batters to help the Tabor College baseball team to a 12-7 victory over Kansas Wesleyan in the title game of the KCAC Baseball Championship Saturday at the Great Bend Sports Complex.

Local golfer, Chuck Wilson, nails hole-in-one

Golfer Chuck Wilson made the shot of his life on Saturday, April 25 at Stonridge gold course. Wilson hit a hole-in-one on the 18th hole with his wife, Meg, as a witness. The divet in the bottom of the photo shows just how close Wilson was from hitting the hole directly.
