The Suicide Prevention Task Force of Central Kansas Partnership held the "Golden Belt Glow for Life" Remembrance Ceremony, Glow Walk and competitive 5 K Glow Run at 7 p.m. on Sept. 10, at Vet's Park in Great Bend. The event was very well attended and the task force would like to thank the entire community for their participation and support for suicide prevention.
So, what did we learn in the past week? That the KC Chiefs' backups are better than the Green Bay Packers' backups. Unless those backups meet in the Super Bowl there are a lot of unanswered questions for the Chiefs. Defensive line is a problem. The ground game, without Jamaal Charles will be a problem. The passing game under Alex Smith and some new receivers is better.
And so it begins. Friday night football is back. At the Mike will break out the Crystal Ball the next couple of weeks to predict the seasons for the area teams. This week we will look at the 11-man teams and next week the Eight-Man teams.

Dade Cannon,12, Great Bend, has been battling cancer since he was 5. Now, he has been chosen to throw out the first pitch at the Royals game versus the New York Yankees on Tuesday at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City.
So, you had a bad day but would you trade places with American swimmer Ryan Lochte? Sure he has seven Olympic medals and is a good-looking dude but all of that chlorine on his brain caused a wisdom malfunction when he and two other teammates made up a story about being robbed by locals in Rio de Janeiro. That didn't go over too well with the natives there. This past week he lost four sweet endorsement deals. He's apologized but the "ripples in the water" will last his lifetime.
Grab your stadium seats folks, the high school football season is here! Two weeks from right now, area high schools kick off the 2016, season. Practices are already underway with two-a-days nearly out of the way.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Kanopolis Lake announces the annual waterfowl blind permit drawing. The event will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17, at the Kanopolis Lake Information Center located at 105 Riverside Drive in Marquette.
