Hoisington Varsity Wrestling dual

The Hoisington Cardinals opened up the dual part of their schedule with a 72 to 6 win over the Ellsworth Bearcats at the Hoisington Activity Center. The Bearcats forfeited eight of the 14 weights to the Cardinals, but the matches that they did wrestle against the Cardinals were wrestled with some very solid kids. The highlight of the evening was Freshmen Christopher Ball defeating the Class 1-3A State Ranked at No. 4 Ellsworth Bearcat Zach Martin who Ball defeated 3-2. The Great Bend High School boys' swimming team swam to a first place finish in Hutchinson on Tuesday, Dec. 9, at the Conklin Aquatic Center in Hutchinson. Lead by first place finishes by junior Josh Schridde in the 200 IM (2.25.32) and the 100 Free (55.65), as well as a first place finish by the 400 Free Relay, the team rolled to a 98 point victory over second place Hutchinson. Tony Crough's first year as Great Bend High School Panther football head coach was a success even though the scoreboard may have told a different story. Crough said his team met or exceeded all of his goals for them. "We improved every day, which was our goal all year long," Crough said. GBMS Wrestlers travel to Salina

Great Bend Middle School Wrestlers traveled to Salina for a duel tournament on Saturday. "I'm very proud of our team. These guys sacrifice a lot just to participate in wrestling. The fact is this group gave up a Saturday to work their tails off and achieve something pretty special." commented Panthers Coach Norbert Muth. Ten teams attended the tournament. Great Bend Rec extending dates for Hap Dumont

The Great Bend Rec center will be extending the dates for this year's Hap Dumont 11U State Tournament. "We are extending the dates to begin this Friday due to the number of teams that have registered," said Christina Hayes, community development coordinator for the City of Great Bend. Hayes said 23 teams are currently registered for this year's state tournament which will take place at the Great Bend Sports Complex. Chiefs wind up at 3-1 at West Fest

HAYS- Anson Hall delivered for seven innings from the hill to help lead Great Bend to a 6-5 edging over Paola in Friday's opening round of the Wild West Fest in Hays. Chiefs take care of business during midweek competition

After a 1-1 split against Dodge City Tuesday the Great Bend Chiefs doubled up on their counterparts from Pratt Wednesday. Great Bend routed their guests in the first half of Wednesday's doubleheader by a 9-1 decision. Jacob Milton started his third contest on the mound for the Chiefs and saddled a no-hitter in the process. Walks and a passed ball contributed to Pratt's only score in game one.

Chiefs split with Dodge City Tuesday

Following a 10-2 series-opening win over Dodge City Tuesday the Great Bend Chiefs gave up some big hits as the Rangers regrouped for an 11-5 victory in game two. Great Bend moves their record to 13-12 and will face Pratt this evening in doubleheader play at the Great Bend Sports Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Four local gymnasts compete at Vegas nationals

LAS VEGAS, Nev.- Alexis Folkerts, Jadynce Schroeder, Jordyn Stukey and Cadence Brown competed at this year' s National meet in Las Vegas June 10-13. Schroeder led the quad placing third overall after competing in the vault, bars, beam and floor. Stukey and Folkerts placed fifth and sixth while Brown came in ninth. (Not pictured is Cadence Brown)

Chiefs fall in semifinals to Buhler

McPHERSON- The Great Bend Chiefs dropped their semifinal game to Buhler in a 7-0 shutout Sunday at the Hooper Showcase. The Chiefs posted a 3-0 record earlier in the tournament with wins over the Kansas Cannons on Friday and El Dorado and Ark City Saturday. At 12-11 on the season Great Bend will host Dodge City Tuesday in doubleheader action beginning at 6 p.m. at GBSC.

Blazers head to Nationals following MAYB tour win

The Barton Blazers took first place in the Great Bend MAYB tournament this past weekend. The Blazers defeated the CK Select in the championship game 49-38. The Blazers will play at Nationals the weekend of July 30th in Wichita. Players include Brock Skelton, Chance Sanger, Nick Wondra, J.J. Chiefs rebound with sweep at Hooper Showcase

McPHERSON- Following a doubleheader loss earlier in the week the Great Bend Chiefs regrouped Friday and came away with an 8-5 victory over the Kansas Cannons at this weekend's Hooper Showcase. Logan Perry saddled the win for Great Bend while Miguel Sanchez collected the save. In Saturday competition, the Chiefs downed El Dorado 4-2 behind Anson Hall's complete game victory. Panthers 11U win league title

The Great Bend Panther 11 under baseball team finished up league play on June 25 in Larned. The Panthers earned a league championship with a 14-2 league record. They also qualified for the NBC State tournament to be held in Great Bend on July 10 and 11.
