The 6th grade Great Bend Panthers boys MAYB basketball team brought home a trophy Saturday, Jan. 5 from the round robin tournament at Dodge City High School. Eight teams made up two pools, with each playing a round robin, with records in pool play to determine seeding in championship play. Great Bend won against the Southard Cyclone, Hays Cavs White and the Liberal Indians. They lost their championship game to Hays Tribe, which ultimately put them in second place overall. ELLINWOOD - Six Pack, a club volleyball team, opened their season on Dec. 16 in Wichita. The team for 17-year-olds finished third in a tournament of nine teams. The Hoisington High School Wrestling team ran its dual record to 11-0 this past Thursday evening, and picked up the Championship Plaque from the Stafford Duals Tournament. The team was outstanding all night as they defeated Bluestem 70-7, Chaparral 65-6, Lincoln 76-6, Nickerson 75-3, and Stafford 63-16. Those in attendance were able to see some outstanding matches on the evening as there were several State Place winners wrestling each other.

Lyles Lashley has received an unbelievable amount of coaching honors in his nearly 20-year career. The most prestigious of them came when he was chosen to be a member of the most recent class to the National Junior College Athletic Association Track and Field Hall of Fame released this past week. He was one of eight people to earn the honor and the only coach in the group.
