Wildcats open spring football practice today

MANHATTAN - Coming off a 10-3 season, a berth in the AT&T Cotton Bowl and several months of offseason conditioning work, the Kansas State football team will hit the practice field for the first time this spring today with the first of 14 workouts leading up to the April 28 Purple/White game.

Panel Discussion on Sports

The Rice County Historical Society's Coronado Quivira Museum will host a panel discussion celebrating sports and the way sports build and unite communities at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Coronado Quivira Museum, 105 West Lyon in Lyons. This panel discussion will be moderated by Sterling College History Professor Doug Boardman. The panel members are Junior Soeken, Jackie Rogers Schafer, Shane Cordell, and Bud Kelly.

K-State student cited for disorderly conduct

MANHATTAN - A Kansas State student who intentionally elbowed Kansas basketball player Jamari Traylor after Monday's Sunflower Showdown at Bramlage Coliseum has been given a court date, according to media reports. The K-State Police Department said Nathan Power was issued the notice to appear for disorderly conduct.

Registration now open for 2015 Spring Team Time Trial

The Sunflower State Games announces that registration is now open for the Spring Team Time Trial. Event details and registration procedures can be found online at www.sunflowergames.com. This three person cycling team event will take place on Saturday, April 11. Staging for the race will take place at the Historic Lecompton High School, 620 E. Woodson Street in Lecompton. Racing begins at 10 a.m with teams set to start at two minute intervals.

The Great Bend Panther bowling squads made an early departure from town on Saturday morning as they traveled to The Alley in Wichita for the 8 team Andover Tournament. In girls action it was sophomore Allie Brodrick who led the way with her team high 560 series. Following close behind was sophomore Kylynn Keeler with a 533 series, senior Abby Rose with a 515 series and senior Addie Soukup with a 514 series. Wrestling results for Hoisington High School for C.K.L. tournament

The Hoisington Wrestling team came as close as a team can come in not winning a team championship at the Central Kansas League tournament hosted by Hoisington this past Saturday. The team lost by just a mere 1/2 point to Smoky Valley High School. Making it even tougher on the Cardinals was that they had the fire power to have won the tournament, if they had been able to be at full strength. Former GBHS wrestler qualifies for NJCAA Wrestling Nationals

Former Great Bend High School wrestler Zachary Schridde qualified for the National Junior College Athletic Association Wrestling Nationals in the 133-pound weight class. Schridde placed fourth for the Pratt Beavers on Feb. 14, at the West Central District Regionals hosted by Colby Community College. Eight colleges participated including colleges from Oklahoma and Arkansas. Pratt Community College Beavers qualified a total of seven of their nine wrestlers for the National Tournament on Feb. 27-28, held in Des Moines, Iowa. The Pratt Beavers are coached by Ken Kepley.
