Musical Chairs

The game of musical chairs in the football coaching world has begun. Fire your coach. There's gotta be a better one out there somewhere. "Hey, why don't you take ours? We want a new one too!" It's that time of year when the music is played and everyone gets up and shuffles around. Changing coaches to bring "Old Swawmee Tech" to the promised land of a Bowl game is an annual rite of passage in college football.

Middle school grapplers do well at Salina

Great Bend Middle School wrestlers traveled to Salina on Saturday to test their skills against Salina Lakewood, Clay Center, and McPherson. The panther wrestlers won their first match up with Salina Lakewood 63-39.

Area residents do the heavy lifting

SALINA - On Nov. 21, four area residents participated in the 2014 Kansas Regional Powerlifting Meet held in Salina. Those taking part were Tom Beckwith of Great Bend, Kim Heinz and Art Keffer of Ellinwood and David Tudor of Bushton. There were 35 lifters who attended and participated in the meet.

The sixth-annual Great Bend Storm Special Olympics Turkey Bowl will kick off at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 28, at Great Bend High School's Memorial Stadium. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.

Chiefs fall in series to Buhler

BUHLER- The Great Bend Chiefs dropped both ends of a doubleheader Tuesday night to host Buhler. Great Bend fell in the first contest 11-1 and dropped a 9-5 decision in game two. Brady Michel was the leading hitter in the series for the Chiefs batting five for six including a homerun. Former Wildcats Sexton and Waters to hold football camp in Hoisington

Curry Sexton and Jake Waters are ready to give back to the state that gave them so much during their collegiate careers. This week, Sexton and Waters, one of K-State's most impactful and productive QB/WR combos, revealed the dates of the summer football camps they will be doing as part of Kansas Gridiron Greats, which targets players from 1st to 12th grade and launched its website (www.KansasGridironGreats.com). Sexton and Waters will be coming to Hoisington for a camp on June 27th. The camp is a fundamentals camp welcome to football players of all positions.

Golden Belt swimmers win Hays meet

HAYS- The Golden Belt swim team recorded a first place finish at last weekend's meet in Hays. Aubrey Snapp placed first in all her events. Cal Dunekack and sister Camryn were standouts as well. Phane Pedigo and Dawson Clark were leaders in the high school boys events. All swimmers improved their times swimming in a 50 meter pool.
