City vs. Country

This World Series matchup between the Mets from New York and the Royals from Kansas City is a classic. Saks Fifth Avenue versus Country Barbecue. The Eastern Seaboard versus flyover country. Gotham versus the City of Fountains. "New Yaawk versus Kannsass City. The Big City versus the Big Country and, for our part of the world, the Bad Guys versus the Good Guys! It couldn't be more fun! At the Mike

October is one of my favorite months. High school football is in full gear and each game matters. The World Series is here and for the last two years for Kansans that means Royal Fever is in high gear. As a KU fan, basketball practice is underway with Late Night in the Phog so I can forget about the Jayhawks football season.

Do we need to know this?

The newspaper headlines shout "Odom, ex- NBA star, looking stronger." The national news gives us constant updates on the condition of Lamar Odom. That he is alert and improving. This is the guy, somewhat famous because he is an NBA basketball player, that was found unconscious at a Nevada brothel last week, strung out on alcohol and drugs. I'm on a "need to know" basis here and I don't NEED to know this. I don't WANT to know this. Do we really care? I sure don't!

No Huddle--Passing Out Of The Shotgun

In the early stages of Rock and Roll there was a great by the name of Chuck Berry. One of his hits was a song titled, "Johnny B. Goode". The chorus went like this: Go,,,Gogo...Johnny Gogo...Johnny B. Goode. Well, Johnny be good Wednesday evening as Kansas City's high-dollar mid-summer pitching acquisition finally paid dividends as Johnny Cueto pitched eight great innings, minus one bad pitch for a home run, and propelled the Royals into the AL Championship Series. Previously Cueto had compiled a 4-7 record in 14 starts with a 4.8 ERA since coming over ...

Predictions

While you are still guffawing about my prediction that Great Bend would beat Dodge City 27-24, remember that "no man is a prophet in his own country". So, you ask, "Am I from Mars?" The 51-7 win that Dodge City hung on Great Bend is only a bump in the road for this pompous prognosticator!
