HAYS – There was more March madness in Hays this past weekend as members of the Storm Special Olympics teams took part in the 35-annual Special Olympics State Basketball and Cheerleading Competition. The Storm, which is made up of athletes from Barton County and the surrounding area, participated in events Thursday through Saturday at Fort Hays State University's Gross Memorial Coliseum, Hays High School and the Hays Recreation Center. Six Pack
The 12-year-old volleyball team, Six Pack, traveled to Topeka for a tournament and placed second out of 10 teams. The team only lost two out of 13 games.
Great Bend Stealers
The Great Bend Stealers, a fifth- and sixth-grade basketball team, claimed first place in the Hays MAYB basketball tournament on March 5. Their overall record this season was 17-4.
Claflin Wildcats
The Claflin Wildcats third- and fourth-grade basketball team, which finished its season on March 6 with a record of 23-4, took first place at the St. John, Nickerson, Hutchinson MAYB and Hays Big Brothers Big Sisters tournaments.

HAP Dumont baseball tryouts The Central Kansas Baseball League tryouts for the NBC Hap Dumont baseball competitive traveling team will be on Sunday at Barton Community College's Kirkman Activity Center - from 3-5 p.m. Players need to bring their own baseball gloves and bats, if they have one. Six Pack Champs
Area club volleyball team "Six Pack" traveled to Topeka on Feb. 12 for a tournament with 20 other teams from all over Kansas and Missouri. The team played 17 games and placed first overall.
