Charlie's Inside Corner: Hitting Singles

A quick perusal of the PGA Top Ten rankings shows how far Tiger Woods has slipped. You will make note that I used his complete name, not just Tiger. His one-word-name does not call for instant recognition anymore. Mr. Woods is nowhere to be found in the rankings. Rory McIlroy is the leader, followed by Jason Day. About the only other recognizable name to the average duffer is that of Jordan Spieth, the Masters Winner. Otherwise, most would be hard pressed to name a top-ten golfer.

Bandits continue winning ways

RAYMORE, Mo.- The Barton Bandits 13U baseball team won their third tournament of the season last weekend at the USSSA Wounded Warrior Tournament held in Raymore, Mo. Lead by strong weekend pitching performances from Eduardo Bujanda, Townshend Kurth, and Colin Hall, the Bandits survived eight lead changes in the championship game against the Blue Valley Rampage in a 7-6 victory. A late sixth inning single by Riley Smith set up the winning run. Colin Hall followed with a single of his own to advance Smith into scoring position. Charlie's Inside Corner: FIFA scandal

For something to be a scandal doesn't it have to be shocking? Doesn't it have to be surprising? That the leaders of FIFA, the governing body of worldwide soccer have been indicted for racketeering and bribery and money laundering certainly doesn't qualify then. There is nothing shocking or surprising about it. In fact, haven't we all said, "Ho hum, what else is new?"

The Kansas State High School Activities Association has approved a change for 6A and 5A football teams in 2016. Just that there should be ANY change should be deemed noteworthy. The KSHSAA and change are not usual bedfellows. Bishop Carroll football coach Alan Schuckman said, "Anytime there's change in Kansas high school football, and it's only been once in my 20 years, it's pretty shocking."

Charlie's Inside Corner: I'm worried

I'm worried about my country. I'm worried about a country that cares more about how much air was in a football than they do about the leader of the U.S. Senate lying about Mitt Romney on the Senate floor. Harry Reid said he had "inside information" that Mr. Romney had not been paying his taxes. Turned out to be a lie but Reid only shrugged and offered, "Romney didn't win did he?"
