The Kansas Governor's One Shot Turkey Hunt announces Liza Ward of Great Bend has been chosen to be one of six Kansas youth to participate in the 29th annual Kansas Governor's One Shot Turkey Hunt. The event will be held April 16, 17 and 18, in El Dorado. Hunters from many states have committed to participate this year including Kansas Governor Sam Brownback.
Sub-State basketball tournaments are underway and by Saturday night there will be tears, sadness and shouts of joy ringing out of area basketball arenas as winners move on to the "Big One", the State Finals! Heartbreak and sadness will be the temporary accompanying ghost of many as there is nothing left but to turn to spring sports after a painful loss. That's the trouble with tournaments; all but one end their season on a sad note.

MANHATTAN - A Kansas State student who intentionally elbowed Kansas basketball player Jamari Traylor after Monday's Sunflower Showdown at Bramlage Coliseum has been given a court date, according to media reports. The K-State Police Department said Nathan Power was issued the notice to appear for disorderly conduct.

This three person cycling team event will take place on Saturday, April 11. Staging for the race will take place at the Historic Lecompton High School, 620 E. Woodson Street in Lecompton. The Great Bend Panther bowling squads made an early departure from town on Saturday morning as they traveled to The Alley in Wichita for the 8 team Andover Tournament. In girls action it was sophomore Allie Brodrick who led the way with her team high 560 series. Following close behind was sophomore Kylynn Keeler with a 533 series, senior Abby Rose with a 515 series and senior Addie Soukup with a 514 series. The Hoisington Wrestling team came as close as a team can come in not winning a team championship at the Central Kansas League tournament hosted by Hoisington this past Saturday. Former Great Bend High School wrestler Zachary Schridde qualified for the National Junior College Athletic Association Wrestling Nationals in the 133-pound weight class. Schridde placed fourth for the Pratt Beavers on Feb. 14, at the West Central District Regionals hosted by Colby Community College. Eight colleges participated including colleges from Oklahoma and Arkansas. Pratt Community College Beavers qualified a total of seven of their nine wrestlers for the National Tournament on Feb. 27-28, held in Des Moines, Iowa. The Pratt Beavers are coached by Ken Kepley.

Great Bend Kids Wrestling Club traveled to Pratt on Saturday to compete against other western Kansas teams. The kids battled all day long at the Sub-Districts tournament and finished 3rd place out of 23 teams.
