The U.S. Olympic basketball team has been selected and, not surprisingly, it is dominated by perimeter scorers. Great Bend Boom drops to last place

The Great Bend Boom baseball team officially hit rock bottom with a 8-5 loss to the Garden City Wind Tuesday to drop into last place in the Pecos League's North Division. The Boom (13-22) are 7-20 after a surprising 6-2 start. Great Bend plays Wednesday at home and Thursday at Garden City.

Bombers 8U Silver wins Wichita tourney

The 8U Great Bend Bombers Silver improved their season record to 36-1 by winning the Southwest Boys Club Wichita Tournament this past weekend. The Bombers went 2-0 in pool play Saturday by defeating Ark City 16-2 and Wichita Reds 14-4. On Sunday the Bombers opened the semi-finals with a 13-5 run-rule of Wichita Arsenal and then held on to beat Wichita Hurricane 13-12 for the championship. Additionally, 8U Silver wrapped up the league title with a sweep of Hays Jays Tuesday night. Last action for Bombers Silver will be July 8-10 at the Hap Dumont State Tournament in Wichita.

Great Bend Boom's slump continues

The Salina Stockade baseball team completed a four-game sweep of the hard-luck Great Bend Boom, 11-7, in 10 innings Sunday at Al Burns Field. The slumping Boom (13-20) have lost eight of nine games after a surprising 6-2 start in the Pecos League.

Ruskies in Rio? Nyet!

The Ruskies won't be in Rio. No, this is not a travelogue from Moscow. We're talking Olympics here. Russia was suspended by the IAAF from all international track and field competitions last November and that ban was upheld this last weekend by the International Olympic Committee.
