COLLEGE football is taken seriously in some places. Last week Ohio State held their "Spring Game." They set a new national record for a spring game with 100,189 fans showing up. Oh yes, those were fans who paid for a ticket to be there! That scene is repeated at Alabama, Florida State, Tennessee, Michigan and many other places. Meanwhile a few more than 1,200 showed up in Lawrence to watch the struggling Jayhawks. There was no admission charge. It hasn't been determined if those 1,200 were paid to be there! Moffet Stadium

There are a lot of fine sports facilities in the state of Kansas. It would be a fair assumption though, that few of them offer the historic significance, provide better eye-appeal, or furnish a better venue for watching a baseball game, than Larned's Moffet Stadium.

For whatever reason the deadline to file your taxes this year has been moved back three days. Instead of April 15 it is April 18. Now I have seen this happen when the 15th would fall on a weekend, but a Friday? Well, the reason is April 15 this year is Emancipation Day. I guess that is a legal holiday in the DC. Maybe one of these days we can emancipate ourselves from Washington.

Blazers place second in Wichita

The Barton Blazers took second place out of eight teams at the Wichita MAYB final four tournament. They went 3-1 for the weekend and lost in the championship game to Oz Elite, 50-56. Players include Dalton Miller, JJ Heredia, Brock Skelton, Chance Sanger, Sam Ryan, Mason Perez and Connor Griffith.

Phelan, Rolfs help American team to win in prep All-Star game

Offense was definitely not a problem Sunday afternoon at the Barton Gym in the fifth annual Central Kansas Girls' High School All-Star Classic. The American team topped triple digits at they won 114-90 over the National team in the event hosted by Barton Community College.

Boom job fair-informational meeting

The Great Bend Boom Professional Baseball Team will be having a job fair-informational meeting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday in the Eisenhower Elementary School Gymnasium, 1212 Garfield in Great Bend. This meeting will be for the purpose of filling needed positions for the team as well as a public information meeting about the team.

Nationals win shootout in Central Kansas All-Star game

Scoring was coming fast and furious Sunday afternoon at the Barton Gym. To the tune of 286 total points. That's right 286. In the end it was the National team that came away with a 162-124 win at the fifth annual Central Kansas Boy's High School All-Star Classic.
