The 6th grade Great Bend Panthers boys MAYB basketball team brought home a trophy Saturday, Jan. 5 from the round robin tournament at Dodge City High School. Eight teams made up two pools, with each playing a round robin, with records in pool play to determine seeding in championship play. Great Bend won against the Southard Cyclone, Hays Cavs White and the Liberal Indians. They lost their championship game to Hays Tribe, which ultimately put them in second place overall. ELLINWOOD - Six Pack, a club volleyball team, opened their season on Dec. 16 in Wichita. The team for 17-year-olds finished third in a tournament of nine teams. Both the Great Bend boys and girls bowling teams started off their 2015 WAC seasons with home wins against the visiting Dodge City Red Demons. The Panther boys dominated the entire match as they earned all 11 points possible in the contest. The Panthers were led by senior Jeff Meitler who had an exceptional day.
