HAYS – The Hays Larks completed winning three of four games with a 6-1 Jayhawk League baseball victory over the Great Bend Bat Cats Thursday. The Bat Cats are 4-14 against the top four Jayhawk League teams.

Larks’ homer sparks victory

HAYS - Great Bend Bat Cats pitcher Taylor Langston made one mistake and Hays Lark Michael Gangwish made him pay. Gangwish launched a three-run homer that sparked the Larks' 5-2 victory over the Bat Cats Tuesday.

Great Bend Bat Cats on a roll

HAYSVILLE – The Great Bend Bat Cats completed a four-game sweep of the Haysville Aviators 14-0 and 5-0 with a double shutout Sunday. Jack Waggoner and Ryan Patrick combined for a two-hit shutout. McPherson's Alex Ruxlow threw a five-hit shutout in the nightcap.

The Kansas City Royals finally crawled up to the .500 mark for the 2017 season this past week, only to fall back a notch or two. Surprising? Not really. Didja know that our Boys in Blue are playing at about the same winning percentage that they have throughout their major league history? Yes, all-time the Royals winning percentage is .482, so if you are a gambler, you'd best put your money on the Royals finishing below the .500 mark.

Sports are rife with great motivational speeches. Coaches are legendary for their fiery pre-game and halftime speeches that fire up and inspire their athletes to achieve what might have been considered impossible. Vince Lombardi, Knute Rockne, Bobby Knight, Lou Holtz and, yes, even Roy Williams and Bill Self come to mind. Of course, one of the greatest motivational cheerleaders of all time wasn't a coach, but a leader in battle, General George Patton, but then, wouldn't he have made a terrific and ferocious football coach?

Bat Cats win Jayhawk League series

Great Bend Bat Cat Hunter Romero delivered four hits in a 12-6 Jayhawk League baseball victory Saturday over the Haysville Aviators. Romero doubled in the first, singled in the third, singled in the seventh, and doubled in the eighth. The Bats entertain Haysville at 7 p.m. Sunday at Al Burns Field.
