HAYS - It was all about staying alive, when Great Bend High School went up against arch-rival Hays on Thursday night in an opening-round game of a Class 5A sub-state basketball tournament.

Barton Blazers record second place at Hays

The fifth-grade Barton Blazers, coached by Troy Griffith, Chris Ryan and Clint Brown, placed second at the Hays Big Brothers/Big Sisters MAYB Basketball Tournament last Saturday. The Blazers defeated Hays Tribe, 29-19; Gray County, 36-16; and the Hays Trojans, 23-7, advancing to the championship game, where they lost in a tough game to the Salina Dawgz, 27-25.
