Oklahoma Wesleyan homers way to KCAC title

Oklahoma Wesleyan pounded its way to the KCAC Basbell Championshop by beating Tabor College 11-3 in Sunday's first championship game at the Great Bend Sports Complex. The Eagles led 5-3 and broke loose with six runs in the eighth inning.

Oklahoma Wesleyan, Sterling reach winners bracket

HAYS - No. 1 seed Oklahoma Wesleyan rolled past Friends 14-7 to advance into Saturday's winner's bracket finals against defending KCAC champion Sterling College. The winner qualifies for the 2017 NAIA World Series May 26-June 2 at Lewiston, Idaho.

Wet field conditions delayed the 2017 KCAC Softball Championship until Thursday at the Great Bend Sports Complex. The KCAC all-league awards will be recognized about 8 p.m. Thursday when play is completed for the day.

Wildcat gift

Barton County Commissioner Homer Kruckenberg received a nice gift from Kansas State football coach Bill Snyder - a signed football. Kruckenberg has been friends with Snyder and they've traded inspirational notes back-and-forth. Kruckenberg has a few years of experience on the 77-year-old Snyder.

Great Bend Middle School wins its B/C tennis invitational by winning three singles divisions - No. 1 Chris Hayes, No. 2 Isaac Avila and No. 3 Brody Feist along with No. 3 doubles champions Shiv Karshan and Dustin Emig.

Still talking about that Wichita State move to the AAC. Wanna know why the AAC wanted the Shockers? Basketball. In comparing home attendance for all schools currently in the AAC and adding Wichita State, the Shockers lead the league in attendance with an average of 10,739. The closest were Cincinnati at 9,885, Memphis 9,623 and UConn at 8,505. At the other end of the scale, Tulane averaged only 1,707 sad folks being tied to their chairs and forced to watch the Green Wave! The AAC as a whole had only 18 sellouts. Quicksilver wins softball title

The Great Bend Quicksilver 10-and-under softball team captured the Gold Division of the Abilene Cowgirl Invitational with a 4-0 record. Quicksilver defeated the Abilene Fury 6-1 and Twisters 6-5 in pool play. Quicksilver beat the Wichita Mustangs 8-7 and Abilene Fury 6-1 to win the championship. Charlie's Inside Corner: April 14

With a lot of fanfare, Wichita State University has announced that they have outgrown the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) and will be taking their games to the American Athletic Conference, (AAC). The Shockers and the MVC are synonymous. They have been a part of that glorious conference-though most of their glory is in the past-since 1945. The feeling in Wichita is that in the past 17 years or so, Wichita State has outgrown the MVC. Maybe so, but have they grown big enough to compete, in all sports, in the AAC?
