"The Great Bend High School junior varsity wrestlers went to Larned this past weekend and wrestled well," coach Jeremy Foster said. They had nine placers with three first place finishers.
Ryan Engle has been elected to the USSSA Softball Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will take place on Feb. 7, at the Courtyard Marriot Old Town in Wichita.
The Hoisington Cardinal Wrestling team continued to dominate in the after Christmas part of their season. The team won the Hoisington Cardinal Classic Wrestling Tournament this past Friday to remain undefeated in tournaments and duals after the break. Fresh off the heels of their big win at the Bob Kuhn Classic just six days before, the Cardinals kept their foot on the pedal by sending eight wrestlers to the finals, and placing 12 in the top four.
Not only did the Hoisington Varsity Wrestling Team have a great weekend, but so did the Junior Varsity squad. The team took 10 wrestlers to the Larned J.V. tournament this past Saturday and placed eight in the top three. At 170 and 285 lbs., the Cardinals had both finalists.
Baker University head tennis coach Joe Ahmadian has announced the signing of Morgan Francis to play tennis for the Baker Wildcats in Baldwin City. Morgan is a senior at Great Bend High School and the daughter of John and Nancy Francis.

Athletes from two eras and the first ever student trainer were inducted in the Barton Community College Sports Hall of Fame over the weekend. Basketball legend Gene Butler, baseball great Jeff Christy and Ryan 'Pete' Manely were inducted during a ceremony Saturday afternoon at the Kirkman Activities Center on the Barton campus.
This last weekend the Great Bend Panther's JV squad competed at the Stafford JV wrestling tournament. The Panthers placed 8 of their 9 wrestlers with three 1st place finishers.
The Hoisington High School varsity wrestling team participated in the Bob Kuhn Sr. Prairie Classic Wrestling Tournament this past weekend at Hays. The team sent five wrestlers to the finals where senior Brandon Ball at 138 lbs. won the Championship match to help propel him to win the Tournaments Most Outstanding Wrestler Award. Sophomore Jonathan Ball, 145 lbs.lbs.; freshman Christopher Ball, 152 lbs.; senior Chance Boor, 195 lbs.; and sophomore Landen Urban, 285 lbs., all finished second. Monday evening, just as Wisconsin took a 3-2 lead over Duke in the national championship basketball game, the electricity flickered three or four times and the house went dark. "Oh what cruel trick of nature could this be?" Surely it will be back any moment I thought, after all, this IS the championship game that's on my giant flat-screen tv! Horror of horrors, it didn't happen!
Will he or won't he? Will Wichita State's Gregg Marshall leave a good situation for another, another that pays more? That scenario is being repeated all across the country as athletic directors "dance with the stars" trying to entice them to coach at their respective schools.
