Dade Cannon,12, Great Bend, has been battling cancer since he was 5. Now, he has been chosen to throw out the first pitch at the Royals game versus the New York Yankees on Tuesday at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City.
So, you had a bad day but would you trade places with American swimmer Ryan Lochte? Sure he has seven Olympic medals and is a good-looking dude but all of that chlorine on his brain caused a wisdom malfunction when he and two other teammates made up a story about being robbed by locals in Rio de Janeiro. That didn't go over too well with the natives there. This past week he lost four sweet endorsement deals. He's apologized but the "ripples in the water" will last his lifetime.
Grab your stadium seats folks, the high school football season is here! Two weeks from right now, area high schools kick off the 2016, season. Practices are already underway with two-a-days nearly out of the way.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Kanopolis Lake announces the annual waterfowl blind permit drawing. The event will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17, at the Kanopolis Lake Information Center located at 105 Riverside Drive in Marquette.
Ted Webster, Larned, was recently inducted into the Rodeo Hall of Fame at Dodge City on Aug. 6, at Dodge City. The association hosted a reception for the inductees, followed by the presentation of a plaque and belt buckle at the rodeo in front of approximately 6,000 spectators and proud PRCA fans. The plaque with his picture will be hung in the rodeo offices along with previous inductees.
The Colorado Rocky Mountain Superchargers rolled into the Sunflower Rod and Custom Association's (SRCA) dragstrip in Great Bend on Saturday. Some folks like to characterize this as the Colorado-Kansas summer shootout. The Super Chargers are a travelling racing tour with cars from Kansas and Colorado. It was a beautiful overcast day providing cool temperatures and lots of O2 for maximum horsepower resulting in some very fast acceleration competition.
