The Great Bend Kid Wrestling Club will be hosting a guest coach on Wednesday February 18th. Tyler Caldwell will be in the wrestling room working with young athletes participating in wrestling. Tyler is a 4-time Kansas State Champion from Goddard high school. Tyler went on to wrestler for the University of Oklahoma then transferred the Oklahoma State University. During his reign as a top collegiate wrestler Tyler compiled 126 victories. He was a four time Division 1 All-American, two time finalist. On Tuesday the Great Bend Panthers traveled to Garden City for a triangular meet with Garden City and Holcomb. The Great Bend girls won the competition by rolling a team series of 2223 and earned six of the possible 11 points. The girls were led in scoring by sophomore Allie Brodrick's 577 series which earned her a 3rd place medal in the contest. The Hoisington Cardinal Wrestling team tasted for the first time in 6 tournaments since the Christmas Break what it is like to not be a tournament champion when they finished 2nd at the Phillipsburg Panther Classic Wrestling Tournament this past Saturday. The GBHS boys swim team have qualified 3 relay teams and two swimmers in individual events for the State Tournament on Feb. 20 and 21. Cole Pierce qualified in the 500m Freestyle and Joshua Schridde qualified in the 50m Free, 100m Free, 100m Butterfly and the 200m Individual Medley. Four other individuals have state consideration times: Dawson Clark 100m Butterfly; Sean Williams 100m Breaststroke; Connor Furrey 100m Backstroke and 500m Free; and Phane Pedigo 200m IM and 100m Backstroke. These individuals along with Ryan Romine will most likely participate in the qualified relays.

The Panther Bowling Teams both came away victorious from Dodge City on Thursday evening. The boy's team earned the win by taking seven of the 11 games. Senior Captain Jeff Mietler earned 2nd place overall honors by rolling a 611 series. The Lady Panthers dominated the night by winning nine of the 11 games. The Lady Panthers were led in scoring by sophomore Allie Brodrick's 582 series which earned her a first place finish. As postseason basketball approaches, the KSHSAA and Fort Hays State University have mutually agreed to relocate this year's Class 1A Division II state basketball tournament from FHSU to the United Wireless Arena in Dodge City. The state tournament dates remain as scheduled March 11 – 14.
