The Great Bend High School boys' swimming team swam to a first place finish in Hutchinson on Tuesday, Dec. 9, at the Conklin Aquatic Center in Hutchinson. Lead by first place finishes by junior Josh Schridde in the 200 IM (2.25.32) and the 100 Free (55.65), as well as a first place finish by the 400 Free Relay, the team rolled to a 98 point victory over second place Hutchinson. Tony Crough's first year as Great Bend High School Panther football head coach was a success even though the scoreboard may have told a different story. Crough said his team met or exceeded all of his goals for them. "We improved every day, which was our goal all year long," Crough said. GBMS Wrestlers travel to Salina

Great Bend Middle School Wrestlers traveled to Salina for a duel tournament on Saturday. "I'm very proud of our team. These guys sacrifice a lot just to participate in wrestling. The fact is this group gave up a Saturday to work their tails off and achieve something pretty special." commented Panthers Coach Norbert Muth. Ten teams attended the tournament. Panel Discussion on Sports

The Rice County Historical Society's Coronado Quivira Museum will host a panel discussion celebrating sports and the way sports build and unite communities at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Coronado Quivira Museum, 105 West Lyon in Lyons. This panel discussion will be moderated by Sterling College History Professor Doug Boardman. The panel members are Junior Soeken, Jackie Rogers Schafer, Shane Cordell, and Bud Kelly.

K-State student cited for disorderly conduct

MANHATTAN - A Kansas State student who intentionally elbowed Kansas basketball player Jamari Traylor after Monday's Sunflower Showdown at Bramlage Coliseum has been given a court date, according to media reports. Registration now open for 2015 Spring Team Time Trial

The Sunflower State Games announces that registration is now open for the Spring Team Time Trial. Event details and registration procedures can be found online at www.sunflowergames.com. This three person cycling team event will take place on Saturday, April 11. Staging for the race will take place at the Historic Lecompton High School, 620 E. Woodson Street in Lecompton. Racing begins at 10 a.m with teams set to start at two minute intervals.

The Great Bend Panther bowling squads made an early departure from town on Saturday morning as they traveled to The Alley in Wichita for the 8 team Andover Tournament. In girls action it was sophomore Allie Brodrick who led the way with her team high 560 series. Following close behind was sophomore Kylynn Keeler with a 533 series, senior Abby Rose with a 515 series and senior Addie Soukup with a 514 series.
