Charlie's Inside Corner: Sept. 8

The song goes like this: "THE EYES OF TEXAS ARE UPON YOU, ALL THE LIVELONG DAY. THE EYES OF TEXAS ARE UPON YOU, YOU CANNOT GET AWAY." Those famous words were penned by John Sinclair way back in 1903, later to unofficially become the state song of the Lone Star state. At the Mike: August 25

With USD 428 getting started this week, pretty much all the schools in the area - and probably in the state for that matter - are back in session. And by this time of the summer, most parents and even kids are ready for it to get started. Probably parents more so than kids.

Charlie's Inside Corner: August 25

It's that time of year when all of us "smarties" predict who are going to win all of the football games; tell you who is going to which bowl game and why. Famed former New York Yankee manager, Casey Stengel once said , "Never make predictions, especially about the future." Good advice Casey. Since I am batting 1000 on my predictions made about the past, I will venture a few predictions about this upcoming Big 12 football season.

Charlie's Inside Corner: August 18

Monday, August 21, there will be a total eclipse of the sun by the moon in the United States. Truly, it's been going on for some time. The eclipse of reason, the eclipse of sanity, the eclipse of moral authority.

Speaking of spitting, who cleans those artificial turfs and those dugouts after those baseball games? I mean, HOLY SALIVA! This is as epidemic as the Great Flood! Noah , where's that boat? Do they call SERVICEMASTER or STANLEY STEEMER? Who wants to slide into home plate after all of that expectorating? Call Heloise. Maybe she's got a tip or two!

Charlie's Inside Corner: August 4

Okay, you're going to think I am really old. Well, maybe I am! I'm going to tell you readers about a story I heard in my youth. It's about the TAR-BABY. The TAR-BABY is the second of the Uncle Remus stories published in 1880. It is about a doll made of tar and turpentine used by the villainous Br'er Fox to entrap Br'er Rabbit. The more that Br'er Rabbit fights the TAR-BABY, the more entangled he becomes. All of that brings us to the Tar Heels of North Carolina. The more they fight the ...

Charlie's Inside Corner: July 28

A few columns ago we wrote that the Royals were nearing the "do or die" time. That time of the season when the management of a ball club must decide whether they are going to give up on the current season and trade away some of their better players that will become free agents next year or decide to keep them for a pennant run and go out and make a trade for a few key players that will assist in that pennant run. This week the Royals' Brass pushed the "Do It" button.
