Great Bend football seeks bounce-back

DODGE CITY - The Great Bend and Dodge City football teams would love to forget last week. Wichita Northwest rolled up more than 600 yards in a 63-27 rout over Great Bend. Wichita Heights quarterback K'Vonte Baker scored eight touchdowns and rushed for 454 yards in a 65-0 laugher over Dodge City.

STAFFORD COUNTRY CLUB - The defending Class 2A state champion St. John Tigers captured first place in the St. John Invitational with 34 points ahead of runner-up Larned (82). Runners battled 96-degree heat accompanied by south winds on a hilly course.

Hoisington Cardinals beat Hillsboro

HOISINGTON – Tailback Sean Urban busted loose for four touchdowns and 168 yards to spark the Cardinals past Hillsboro 53-28 in Friday's Central Kansas League football game. The Cardinals (2-1, 2-0 CKL) have won 21 consecutive home games dating back to a loss to Scott City in 2013.

The Great Bend Middle School 8th-grade football team dominated both sides of the football in a 31-0 win over Garden City's Ken Henderson.

GBMS 7th-grade football loses

The Great Bend Middle School seventh grade football team lost 30-6 to Garden City Ken Henderson Middle School. The Panthers had a difficult time getting anything going offensively. Matthew Moeder rushed for 40 yards and a touchdown. Caden Miranda rushed for 35 yards. Quarterback Caden Scheuerman completed a 30-yard pass to Skylar McMullen. The Panthers play Liberal at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Memorial Stadium.
