WICHITA- Facing sudden death in a second overtime slot, Jessica Loera made the most of the opportunity and nailed the game winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Wichita Southeast Tuesday evening. Tuesday's win marked the second of a back-to-back for the Panthers following home competition on Monday against Thomas More Prep.
Following a 40-minute lightning delay in the second half, TMP's Kayla Vitztum connected with Bailey Hageman in the 42nd minute and propelled the Monarchs to a 3-0 victory over the Panthers Monday at Cavanaugh Fields.
DODGE CITY- Garden City polled 13 points to capture this year's Western Athletic Conference tennis title during the annual conference meet Monday. Host Dodge City recorded nine points to finish as runner up while the Panthers and Liberal tied for third with seven team points. Hays finished last with four points.
Due to wet field conditions, today's WAC baseball doubleheader between Great Bend and Dodge City has been postponed to Monday, May 11 at 4 p.m. The Panthers will participate in the Western Diamond Classic in Hays, May 7 and 9.
GREENSBURG- It was a golden start to the month of May for Ellinwood's girls track and field team as the Eagles finished with a 109-point house cleaning to win Friday's 16-team Kiowa County Invitational.

LIBERAL- Late season injuries and youth are taking a toll on the Great Bend girls soccer team. Despite a 1-0 lead at the break, Great Bend was unable to hold the momentum over the closing period as the Panthers dropped a 3-1 decision on the road to Liberal in a makeup game Friday. On Thursday, the Panther's fell to Dodge City at home in a 1-0 final.
Jordan Haney wound up her collegiate career on Friday as Tabor College bowed out of the KCAC Softball Championships with a 4-0 loss to Bethany College. Haney hit one for three as the Bluejay's DP. For the season, Haney batted .318 after 129 at-bats, a third team best 41 hits and started in 45 of 47 games as a senior.
The GBHS varsity volleyball team won first place in the Barton Summer League tournament defeating Central Plains in the championship. The team will head to the University of Colorado Team Camp at Boulder July 16-18th. The Great Bend JV finished in second place in their tournament.
SALINA – St. John's Dean Wade, headed for Kansas State University, scored 15 points and grabbed a team high nine rebounds to help the White team roll past the Blue team 118-91 in Saturday's Kansas Basketball Coaches Association Boys All-Star Game at Mabee Arena.
Local kids ranging from first grade to eighth grade converged on the Memorial Stadium turf this week to improve their football field skills. Head high school coach Tony Crough and his full staff of coaches were on hand to lead athletes through position specific drills. Athletes worked on fundamentals such as throwing, catching, passing and run blocking, firing off the ball, hip movement, proper stance and footwork as well as team blocking concepts, learning plays, and reading defenses.

Great Bend Middle School will hold two football equipment sizing sessions. The first will take place on Monday, June 29 at 5:30 p.m. for eighth grade boys followed by the seventh grade at 6:30 p.m. The second sizing session will be held on Monday, July 6 at the same times. Athletes will meet at the GBMS field house located just west of the middle school. Athletes only need to attend one date. For more information contact coach Jason Perry at (620) 792-9625.
More than fifty participants were involved at this week's football camp held at Memorial Stadium. The camp was faciliated by members of the GBHS football team and coaching staff. The three-day camp concludes Wednesday.
