Great Bend soccer shuts out Junction City in regular season finale

Araceli Delgadillo scored two goals late in the second half to help the Great Bend girls soccer team end the regular season on a positive note in a 6-0 victory over visiting Junction City Thursday.

Panthers sweep past Hutch in regular season closer

Great Bend faced a formidable foe but proved up to the task as the Panthers took a 2-0 sweep over visiting Hutchinson to close out the regular season Thursday. Following a 6-2 victory in game one, the Panthers found themselves in a battle but were able to hold off a Salt Hawk rally late in the game to win the second contest, 2-1.

St. John boys find gold in relay, finish seventh at league meet

ELLINWOOD- The 4x800 relay team of Quincy Smith, Clay Cooper, Triston Long and Gerardo Calleros finished with a first place time of 8:40.57 at Thursday's Central Prarie League Meet. As a team, the Tiger boys placed seventh out of a nine-team competition with 44 points. Ness City was the top finisher at 98.

Due to wet field conditions, today's regular season finale between Great Bend and Hutch softball has been moved to a 5 p.m. start. Today's JV softball game against Larned has been cancelled.

Due to wet field conditions today's Panther baseball games against Larned, originally scheduled to be played at home, have been moved to Larned's Moffett Field with the first pitched scheduled for 5 p.m. The JV games will be played at Jordaan Park in Larned.

SALINA- A long pass by Kaily Griffith to fellow sophomore Melanie Garcia set up an early goal but Great Bend would not be able to produce enough offensive push the rest of the way as the Panthers fell to Salina South, 3-1 in the second of a back-to-back Tuesday night.

Middleton breaks school records in sweep of TMP

Hunter Middleton broke two school records in Tuesday's 10-0 and 7-1 sweeping of visiting Thomas More Prep. The Panther senior recorded 12 strike outs in the first game and retired one more for good measure after an inning's work in game two to break the single season strikeout record with 137 for the season. Middleton also collected her 15th win of 2015 breaking another school record.

Manhattan blanks girls soccer, 10-0

Great Bend girls soccer fell 10-0 to visiting Manhattan Monday at Cavanaugh Fields. The loss drops Great Bend to 3-10-1 on the season. The Panthers are in Salina this evening for non conference action againt Salina South.

Pittsburg Colgan wins state 2-1A baseball title

Final score: Pittsburgs Colgan-15, Medicine Lodge-0. Colgan wins third state championship and finishes the season at 14-11 while Medicine Lodge ends their season at 19-5. Medicine Lodge suffered six errors in the title loss. In the third place game, Salina-Sacred Heart trounced Oxford, 14-1. SSH posted an 11-3 hitting margin over Oxford in that contest.

Thursday state tournament at GBSC moved to noon start

Due to heavy rains today's 2-1A state baseball championships have been postponed to a noon start. "We will immediately play the next game after," said Christina Hayes of the Great Bend Rec Commission. "Depending on how long the games take, we might or might not be on schedule." "The games will be possible in Great Bend, other locations might not be so lucky," said Jeremy Holliday, KSHSAA official.
