The Ellinwood Eagles Boys team won their first sub-state tournament game versus Ell-Saline on Monday with a final score of 59-37. It was a back and forth game in the first half with neither team really finding momentum. Ellinwood held just a one-point lead going into the half at 20-19. However, out of halftime the Eagles cranked up the full court pressure and exploded in the third quarter. Ellinwood won the 3rd quarter 22 to 4 and pushed out the lead for good. On Friday both Panther bowling teams punched their ticket for a return trip to the 5A-1A State Bowling Tournament. The Lady Panthers started off the day by finishing as the regional runner up in the 12 team tournament which was held at the Walnut Bowl. The Lady Panthers were narrowly defeated by Salina South by seven pins. Sophomore McKenzy Black led the Panthers with a team series high of 518. The Hoisington High School Wrestling team ended their season this past weekend at the K.S.H.A.A. Class 1-3A State Wrestling tournament held in Hays. The team brought 10 kids to the meet with the expectation of bringing home hardware. Not too long ago when the senior class was freshmen they were able to bring home a second place trophy, but this time the expectations were one step higher. HAYS - Hoisington's Ball brothers got off to a rousing start in the Class 3-1A state wrestling championship. The trio of Ball brothers - three-time state champion Brandon Ball, Jonathan Ball and Christopher Ball - all won three matches to qualify for the Class 3-1A state finals Saturday night. No trio of brothers had ever qualified or won state wrestling titles in the same year.
